Nascar24
First off I notiiced something similar to this further down the forum, I have had this memory for just over 2 years but just recently checked out the ID on this through CPU-Z. It states this memory is PC2700 when I believe it should be PC3200. Or is it that this module was rated to be PC3200 after it was made? But to my question, My A8V is only seeing it as PC2700 as the CPU-Z has stated, I have tried setting the Limit 2:1 DDR400 but it has no effect on the speed this ram should be running at, When Im back into windows it still states its only running 166mhz. Any suggestions? Do I really have a PC2700 module that was marked PC3200? Whats my options?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 16, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 16, 2004 First off; you most likely have our first versions of our 3200C2 modules, which when it was released in the market the official JEDEC memory specification for the PC3200 are not out/released yet, but the ram should be PC3200 and the ID that was used to it will be the 2700. Now on the problem that you are experiencing on your A8V ASUS MB; please put the memory module on slot 2 & 4; make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB installed, and set the following settings on your BIOS; Advanced Chipset: Memclock Mode: Limit Memclock ratio: 2:1 (DDR400) Bank Interleaving: 4/Enabled Burst Length: 4 SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T Hypertransport: 5X Jumper Free/Frequency Voltage Control: AI OverClock: Manual Spread Spectrum: Enabled CPU FSB Clock: 200 DDR Voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure! Nascar24
On a side note on the Hypertransport will it be any kind of an issue that I have it set to 4X? I have one of the somewhat rare S939 3400+ A64's with the 1600mhz. Would this effect me running at the DDR400? Whats the reasoning in putting it in 2 and 4 instead of the suggested 1 and 3? WIll it have to be 1 and 3 if you want dual channel on this board?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 18, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 18, 2004 Try to use either DIMM slot and see which one will work, according to the CPU white paper that 2&4 should be used first, but some people had success on 1&3. Please set the Hypertransport at 4X if your CPU frequency is 1600MHz system will or may not run propler if set at 5X.
Nascar24
Thanks for the help but I believe the rating on this ram maybe holding me back to the 166mhz. I tried both 1&3 and 2&4 and it still will only run at 166mhz. I can overclock the CPU and have it run higher but really had no desire to do that since I am happy with the speed of the processor at stock.
