Hydro H50 fan screws seem too tight

Hi all. My first build in 7 1/2 years and I've decided to try liquid cooling for the first time since it seems to be much more newbie friendly these days.

I'm at the point of installing the fan and radiator, and 3 out of the 4 holes are so tight that the screws will not go in at all unless I force them. I can force them, but it will result in rethreading the holes and possible metal shavings spilling out which may end up on the motherboard.

One hole has just barely enough slop to put the screw in a little ways.

So, the question is: Is this normal? Since there are no nuts to hold the screws in place, it makes some sense that they should be snug, but, this seems overly tight, but maybe that is exactly the way it's supposed to be. After all, too loose and it may rattle its' way off at some point.

So I'm holding off on continuing the build until I find out about this.

One other quick question: The instructions show and mention nothing about the round plastic locking clip that came with it. I found one guide that showed a picture of it apparently being installed from the bottom. Is that correct?

Thanks for any help. I hope I can get this built and tested tomorrow!

I can't remember the contents of the h50 box, but you should have something like:

- Cooler

- Intel rear bracket

- Intel front bracket (for cpu)

- Intel screws

- AMD front bracket

- AMD screws

- Black retention bracket (this clips the metal cpu bracket to the cpu block)

Have you checked to make sure you are using the correct screws for the motherboard? (I think the amd and Intel screws are different aizes)

/sigh I was hoping to wake up to several responses 'ok'ing' the screws. I guess I'll do what I saw someone else say they did, and try to tie the radiator up with zip ties. I can also temporarily install the stock Intel fan and then do the Hydro later, but I really hate doing this stuff twice, and I didn't order any extra compound for reapplications (I guess I should have just in case).

This particular version of the kit is 'Intel only', so it only has one set of radiator screws, and the 'motherboard' retaining screws are radically different....they are huge, so I'm not sure what you meant there.

I'll see if I can call support.....I hope they're open on the weekends. :/
