GWHall
I bought TWINX1024-3200LL XMS3200 from ZipZoomFly along with a Gigabyte GA-K8NS ULTRA-939 and an AMD64 3500+. I was NOT overclocking and was using the default (Latest) BIOS settings. After an extremely difficult install of XP and numerous BSOD the machine appeared to be working "OK". After approximately three weeks the BSOD became more and more frequent and finally the machine wouldn't boot. I tried rebuilding using an ABIT AV8 Third-Eye motherboard and immediately ran into several problems. It would BSOD while copying the setup files for XP BEFORE it had even started the setup. After reading through your forum I tried moving the memory into Bank 3&4 to no avail. Then once I seperated them and ran them in single channel at 333Mhz it became useable and would let me install XP. Then I ran MemTest86 and received numerous errors while it was running at 400Mhz, dual channel. Seeing as that is the rated speed and mode for this memory apparently one, or both, sticks are bad. I would appreciate a RMA for them. ZipZoomFly won't RMA because the 30 days since purchase has expired. Thank you.
Wired
What about single @ 400 Mhz? Is your CPU a 90 nm core?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 13, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 13, 2004 That would suggest some other problem, I can see one module failing but not both. Can you test them in another system?
GWHall
I currently have the ABIT AV8 Third-Eye board installed. It has the latest BIOS installed and all of the settings are default. With the ram in Dimm slot 1 & 3 (Single channel) and the DRAM BIOS setting at AUTO (Default) the post states that it is 400Mhz Single Channel 64bit memory. Then right below that it states that the memory speed is 333Mhz. That tells me that the motherboard sees that the memory is 400Mhz but SOMETHING is wrong and it is setting the speed to 333Mhz. If I leave it like this then the machine is fairly stable (a few infrequent BSOD, which I feel are unacceptable for a non-overclocked machine) BUT, if I set the DRAM setting to SPD like you recommend in this forum the post identifies the speed as 400Mhz and it runs it at 400Mhz and that is when the fun begins. I receive numerous BSOD and it becomes a nightmare. This gets worse if I'm silly enough to try and run it in the mode (Dual Channel) that your company built and (supposedly) tested the memory to be used for. Seeing that this is a matched pair then if one stick is bad they are both bad, UNLESS, you take them both back, determine which is good and then match another pair to the good one. This is my first time using Corsair Memory and you were highly recommended (for the most part) AND the TwinX Low Latencey is supposed to be some kick *** RAM but judging by the amount of issues I am seeing in this forum (a lot with this same memory) I am seriously beginning to wonder if Corsair isn't suffering from a quality issues. All of this was happening with the GigaByte motherboard as well. I am (trying) to running an AMD 64 3500+ (939 Pin) in a ABIT AV8 Third-Eye (latest BIOS - Default settings) with an Antec True Power 550 power supply so this shouldn't be rocket science. MemTest86 reports so many errors when I try to run this memory Dual Channel 400Mhz that I don't bother letting it finish. When I run MemTest86 with the memory in Single Channel 400Mhz it reports a lot of errors, though not as much as Dual Channel. If I set the DRAM setting to AUTO and it runs the memory at 333Mhz it doesn't report any errors. If I put a single 512mb Crucial Technology 3700 DIMM into either motherboard it runs rock solid not a single BSOD or any erros from MemTest86. What bothers me is that your website recommends this memory for both of these motherboards and seeing that I haven't done ANY overclocking if this memory is good it should be running rock solid. Seeing that this has been a problem since day one with this memory it would REALLY BE NICE to get something into this machine that is working correctly at its rated speed. I didn't pay $279 for a gig of dual channel 400mhz memory just to have to run it in single channel mode at 333mhz. If there is a better memory match for the ABIT board take this memory back and I will pay the difference from my purchase price (if any) for the new memory. If this memory is OK for this board then PLEASE give me a RMA so I can get this machine up and running. Thank you.

They always send out new memory for RMA replacements. 2. Of course you're seeing a lot of problems in here, this is the tech support forum, 90% of posts here are for RMAs. That's cust/tech support for ya, it's super rare that someone calls up or posts JUST to say that company X rocks. 3. Nope, no QA issues or anything, in fact the % of RMA'd memory is something like 0.02% of what they sell, and most of those usually aren't even bad. I didn't pay $279 for a gig of dual channel 400mhz memory just to have to run it in single channel mode at 333mhz. May want to try to get an RMA directly through your reseller if you can, as they may be able to swap them for the XLs and you may save money. Ram Guy will see this thread a bit later and most likely approve your RMA based upon the t/s you've done so far. FYI, if you're in a hurry, you can always call them @ 888-222-4346

The thirty day allowance for a RMA from ZipZoomFly is long gone since I have been fighting this for so long. The only option is a RMA through Corsair. There is only a $20 difference between the XL and LL but I like the specs better on the LL. Thank you for the information. I understand that this is a forum for problems but it does seem like there is a lot of people having the exact same issue (BSOD, instability, Windows reporting graphic device drive problems, etc.) that I have been having. If the volume seems high and the percentage you quoted is correct then maybe there isn't a quality issue. I guess I am having trouble handling this because I have been building workstations and servers for over 12 years and this is the first time I have had bad memory right out of the box. I have only had bad memory twice before but that was after it had been used 24/7 for years. Thank you for your responses and I am looking forward to a RMA so I can get this behind me. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 14, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 14, 2004 Please try the modules in slots 3-4 and set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and set the timings manually to Cass 2-3-2-6 with the Rass to Cass set to 3 and then test the system with http://www.memtest.org. However, if the modules will pass one up with http://www.memtest.org that would suggest some other problem, and I would check that you have the latest bios as well. And I have no problem replacing the modules if you need to, but we would only be able to replace for the same part#. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
