THISTLE
I have an Abit Av8 (k8t800 pro Athlon 64) Motherboard. My question is this... Will things run ok with slots 1 and 2 filled with 1 stick each of Corsair 512MB Cas 2.5 Value memory (unbuffered) Both memory is PC400 (3200) and slots 3 and 4 filled with 1 stick each of Corsair 256MB XMS buffered matched memory? If not, what would the the best for a gaming oriented machine? Go with 1GB (2 x 512) of the Value select memroy? (will it work ok since it is not buffered?) Or just stick with the 512MB (2 x 256) Matched registered memory? Thanks for your help!!
CMC_SAVAGE
Since the board does'nt support Registered/ECC Ram it would have to be the 1 GB (2x512). http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/techspec.php?categories=1&model=175 CPU Integrated Dual Channel Memory Controller - Four 184-pin DIMM sockets (Un-buffered Non-ECC DIMM) - Supports Dual Channel DDR 400/333/266 (Max. 4GB)

THISTLE
I did as Savage suggested and set asside the 2 x 256 sticks of XMS. In slots 1 and 2 installed one 512 value select (pc3200) and it runs great! I am curious to try putting the two 256 sticks in slot 3 and 4 to see if the board will recognize and use the memory or not. I'll post if I do. CMC_SAVAGE
Corsair 256MB XMS buffered matched memory This would be TWINX512R-3200C2? The only XMS Registered modules I see are 512 in size, TWINX or single. Perhaps this RAM is dicontinued or I just can't find it. RAM GUY?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 15, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 15, 2004 Well what is the exact part# of all of your modules? And the MB ABIT AV8 will not support registered memory.
