Random Crashes-P5AD2 Deluxe

Pulling my hair out over this one. Persistent random crashes with repeated power on/power off. Have checked all components repeatedly, RMA'd Mobo, rebuilt 3 times, updated to most recent BIOS. Thought maybe overheating problem so replaced stock Intel heatsink/fan with Zalman 7700 cooler-acceptable temps but no change. Thought maybe RAM problem-but no errors on MemTest after several passes. Crashes can occur at idle or while in use, and after 1 hour to up to 12 hours after on. No BIOS beep errors on post.

 

My setup:

 

ASUS P5AD2 Deluxe Mobo(LGA775)

Corsair XMS2 1GB(Twin2x-1024 5400C4Pro)RAM

2-WD Raptor 74GB HDD

XFX Geforce PCX 5750 (256MB) video card

Thermaltake 560w(P4)-Power supply

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Ltd Ed-sound card

Lite-On 16x DVD

Lite-On 52x32x52 CD-RW

Thermaltake V5000A Damier case

Teac 1.44MB Floppy Drive

 

 

Am at a loss to pinpoint problem and any suggestions would be most appreciated!!!

Checked my voltage readings in BIOS and are as follows:

 

VCore voltage=1.36v

3.3v=3.28v

5v=5.04v

12v=11.77v

 

 

My memory voltage, chipset core voltage, CPU core voltage and FSB termination voltage are all set to AUTO. I can manually change the the Memory voltage, however, my options only range from 1.8v to 2.1volts. So cannot change to 2.7v as you suggested.

Alrighty... what are ALL of your BIOS settings, particularly the CPU multiplier/FSB(external frequency), the memory divider, memory latencies (CAS, tRP, etc) that you have setup?

 

As for the memory, the DDR-II modules should run at 1.9 volts (2.7 is for DDR-I modules).

 

If Memtest isn's showing errors, let's start narrowing things down, but please post your BIOS settings first.

The following are my BIOS settings:

 

Configure DRAM timing by SPD= ENABLED (IF I DISABLE THE SETTINGS ARE 4-4-4-12-4)

 

AI Overclocking =MANUAL; WITH THE CPU FREQ. SET AT 200 AND THE DRAM FREQ SET AT 600; ALL OTHER PARAMETERS (PERFORMANCE MODE, PCI XPRESS FREQ, PCI CLOCK SYN MODE,SPREAD SPECTRUM, MEMORY VOLTAGE,CHIPSET CORE VOLTAGE, CPU VCORE VOLTAGE, FSB TERMINATION VOLTAGE) ARE SET TO AUTO

 

CPU FREQ=36OO MHZ

FSB FREQ=800

 

RATIO=18, WITH RATIO STATUS LOCKED

Am pulling my hair out trying to find a stable configuration for my set up:

 

ASUS P5AD2 Deluxe-Mobo

Intel P4 3.6 GHz processor

Corsair 1GB DDR2 RAM(twin2x-1024 5400C4PRO)

Thermaltake Purepower 560w-PSU

2-WD Raptor 74GB HDD

XFX 256Mb GeForce PCX 5750-video card( ATI x850xt Plat.Ed PCI-E on order)

Lite-On 16x DVD

Lite-on 52x32x53 CD-RW

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Ltd. Ed.

Keep getting random crashes with "overclocking failed" error. These occur anywhere after 1 to 12 hours of use. Have similar concerns about compatibility of the Corsair 5400 RAM. Am hoping this is just simply a correct BIOS setting problem. Have checked all other components and they are OK. Ran MemTest-0 errors after several passes. Temps acceptable.

Would be very interested to know if you have found a stable configuration since your setup is very similar, and, if so, what are your BIOS settings? Have already ordered Crucial Ballistix PC4200 RAM-but would very much like to be able to use my Corsair RAM since it was expensive and send the Crucial RAM back.

mem voltage is set at 1.9v. have already run MemTest on Ram (individually and together) with no errors on mult. passes. am curious as to why you think it maybe PSU problem instead of Bios settings. i certainly can purchase and try a different PSU, but would like to rule out BIOS settings as problem before going that route

Looked at the thread you recommended-which revealed a possible compatibility issue with Thermaltake PSU's and P5AD2 mobo's. Since a relatively inexpensive fix-I took out my Thermaltake Purepower 560w PSU( 20Pin with 20-24pin adapter) and replaced with an Enermax ATX 12V v2.0 485w Noisetaker PSU-(supports LGA775-PrescottP4(24pin) & PCI Express/AGP(6P)-model# EG495AX-VE(W)SFMA V2.0(24P). Voila!!!-running now 24hrs without any crashes and at acceptable temps. Think I have found a stable configuration/setup and my experience would seem to confirm the Thermaltake PSU compatibility issue.
