stormspotter
Ok, here's the story. Motherboard died (Gigabyte GA-7DX) and took out the hard drive and one of my sticks of ram. After installing a new motherboard and hard drive I ran memtest86. First with the 512MB stick of ram and then with the 256MB stick of ram. The 512MB (not Corsair brand) survived, but the 256MB spit out a bunch of errors during the memtest. And indeed when I try to use the computer it works fine - nice and stable - with the 512MB stick, random lockups with the 256MB and still random lockups with both sticks in. I always have the 512MB in slot0 and the 256MB in slot1 on my motherboard. So, does this qualify for warranty? TIA, Jacob
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 8, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 8, 2004 Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
stormspotter
And I was just starting to get some uptime on this machine again... Oh well, it was only 15 days. The new motherboard is a DFI NFII Ultra Infinity. CPU is an AMD Thunderbird 1.0Ghz, FSB is 133. CPU ratio in the BIOS is left at 'default'. BIOS settings for cpu and memory clock speed are both 133Mhz. I do not do any overclocking and never have. Additional performance settings: not really anything to speak of, but here's what the settings are. CPU and AGP clock Spread Spectrum is disabled for both. Additional memory/cpu settings in the advanced chipset section of the bios were left at the default 'optimal' setting (ie. I can't change the Tras or CAS settings on the memory, etc. when 'optimal' option is selected.) All the settings are pretty generic, really. Also, the 512MB stick of ram that still works is a cheap piece of Kingston Value Ram (DDR2100), so it's not like I'm pitting Corsair Value Select against some high performance stuff.
