Hammer
Hello, I have a Intel P4 2.8 478 pin 800mhz fsb cpu, with a Gigabyte 81PE1000 Pro motherboard and the Corsair XMS PC4000 TWINX 1024mb and a Nividia FX5700 Ultra . The thing will run good but if I turn the clock up as much as 1mhz the video in a game will start having artifacts, actually it will do it very slightly at standard clock. I did have two unmatched XMS PC3500 512 modules that I could turn up to 902fsb and it wouldnt mess the video up. But these PC4000 are terrible at best. Whats the problem. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 7, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 7, 2004 Please make sure that you are locking the AGP PCI Freq at 66/33 and set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts and you will need to set the timings manually to Cass 3-4-4-8 as well. Hammer
and the timings are set to 3-4-4-8 and I turned the volts up on the Ram and I also turned the volts up on the cpu to make sure, as well as the 33/66/100 AGP PCI settings (they are fixed and correct) So I can run the thing at MAXIMUM of 820fsb but at standard clock of 800fsb is the best. Now I did not underclock the machine and I have no intention of doing that. But I still get artifacts at standard clock and if I turn the clock up the artifacts just get worse. According to Corsiar this is 500mhz RAM and while I dont expect to get this machine to run anywhere near 500mhz memory speed and the FSB to 1000mhz, I am wondering why the RAM wont run at 400mhz flawlessly. This is on a clean install with XP Home (it did the same way with old install after I put this ram in) with the latest Nividia WHQL drivers and the video card isnt overclocked, DirectX9.0c also. Video card doesnt get hot nor does the cpu, I have 4 fans pulling hot air out of the machine as well as a 80mm fan blowing directly on top of the video card as well as an adjustable 80mm forced tube fan blowing on the cpu. Problem is, I didnt have this issue with artifacts in the video until I went with the PC4000 Twinx 1024mb. So why is it this machine has problems now with settings at the normal fixed setup? Now back to that Corsair PC3500 I had running it was (Corsair XMS PC3500 1024mb of an unmatched pair, 2x512) and it ran like a scared cat and I thought that I could get a little more from the machine but actually I get less. I know the cpu will run a 3.2 becuase I had it running with the PC3500. I don't know whats happening but I am getting a little upset over this.
