arkuden
Hi ever since my computer was built ive been having stability problems. Recently i got the memtest86 v1.4 and decided to run it becuase i could not pinpoint my instability in the system to anything else. At the moment it is currently still running and 93% finnished. I have 354 errors total with addresses ranging from 133.6MB - 1021.8MB the part number for the ram i have is: VS1GBKIT400C3 Here are my system specs: AMD Althalon XP +3000 running stock at 200Mhz FSB DFI Lanparty Nforce2 Ultra Revision B The ram itself is running stock at 400FSB or 200Mhz with 1:1 ratio to the cpu. This ram has never been overclocked either. Im guessing that both sticks will need to be replaced. Any Advice or Directions? Thanks for the help Paul
Wired
Check one stick at a time in each slot.
arkuden
done and done. I have tested each stick in each slot and continue to get errors each time. the last test i ran was with both sticks in, only swapped from the original test and i get this for the errors that occur: BADRAM=0x0855be88,0fffffffc,0x0855be88,0fffffffc
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 21, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 21, 2005 Are you getting that same error with either module? And what do you have the bios set too for memory and CPU?
arkuden
i assume you mean like fsb and ratio right? they are both at 200mhz for fsb and i just put ram on a 1:1 ratio with cpu, neither are overclocked. full bios settings are at optimal, and speed of CPU is AMD 3000+ @ 2.10 Ghz
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 21, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 21, 2005 And are you getting that error with either module installed?
arkuden
no i only got that error when i switched spots for teh two sticks. I got almost identical errors when i tried each stick in each spot.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 21, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 21, 2005 That might suggest another problem, can you test the modules in another system?
arkuden
yeah let me see what i can do. while i wait for a new test system, any insight on what the other problem may be so i can look into it? thanks!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 22, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 22, 2005 I am sorry I missed the other problem? About not being able to over clock? If that's it try and set the system performance to user Define!
arkuden
haha we are confusing each other. I do need to clarify that the BADRAM error i got above was (as i just found out) becuase a fellow techie toyed with the config on memtest86 and it showed that instead of normal errrors. I have rerun with the normal config and all the normal errors that were present before are still there. the badram error doesnt show up, it appeared to be a display option. I am not aware of any other problems. I was merely asking what other problem you thought may be occuring so that i might be able to verify it for you and save us some time. I have not tried over clocking this system at all. not ready to void any warranties yet hehe.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 22, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 22, 2005 Let me put it this way, if you test the modules one at a time and you get the same or almost the same error with both module testing them one up that would suggest some other problem. Can you tell me the test that it's failing on?
arkuden
yes and now ive tested in another system. Heres how its looking like for the first stick so far. Im getting about 4 errors on test 6. I will be testing the next stick in each spot next. At first i thought there may have been a problem with the board or more specificly the memory controller on board. But now that the other computer im testing on is giving me errors. Im thinking not. BTW for reference, the second test system is on a Soyo KT600 with an AMD 3200+ at optimal performance settings. More to come soon when i throw the next stick in. EDIT: 2nd stick showed no errors in test system. Now testing the ram in dual channel mode. Edit 2: Oh god the crap has really hit the fan now. literally! I have the both sticks of ram in the test system with the stick that gave errors in DIMM 1 and i currently have 146 errors from test 5. Some in the address range of 0.2m-0.4m and then 965.1m to 1023m. Test 6 is currently running and i will await the finnish before posting this edit. Test 6 is now finnished and there were no additional errors even though the one stick by itself gave several errors for test 6.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 24, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 24, 2005 Well KT600 chipset is not dual channel and I believe that you can only run one module at DDR400 with this chipset. And what were the settings you had set when the modules were installed one up? You might try and set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and test the suspect module again! arkuden
sorry for the delay in replying. I have set the voltage to 1.7 as you suggested and there seemed to be no problems for the first few days but now i cannot have windows running for more than 5 minutes with out getting a hardware malfunction. I am testing each stick again separately to see what errors come up: stick 1: tst: 3 failing address: 000042adf48 - 66.8mb count: 5 stick 2: no errors found This ram was tested on two other systems getting the same results on the stick testing bad. Both test systems were using N-force2 chipsets. Any other things you would like me to try? thanks again, Paul
