kurfurst4
I have a A7N8X-E deluxe that works great at 2-2-2-5 at stock settings with a XP3200+..now I want to get the best from it..With my old Value Select VS512MB400 I could run at 230x10.5 and be stable at 2.5-3-3-10. With this XMS stuff, I can't get over 225x10.5 or I get booted from 3DMark1 at 2-3-3-8. This is with a modded 1012 BIOS that allows for 2.9vdimm and the vcore at 1.85v At 233fsb it won't even POST. Isn't this the same chips that is in the PC3700 and PC4000 sticks..Am I asking too much?
Wired
You got lucky with the VS. Try 2.5-3-3-8. I've heard of the XLs getting up to 275+ Mhz, but of course they're only warrantied up to 200 Mhz.
kurfurst4
Aren't the chips on this board the same as on the PC3700 and PC4000 sticks? It runs at 2-2-2-5 if at 400mhz but at higher you have to adjust... or am I confused? Explain to me why I bought this 'better' memory?
Wired
Some of the 3700s, 4000s, and 4400s do use the same chips, however those chips are tested at those speeds and warrantied at those speeds. If they fail those tests, they still may be able to meet the requirements to be branded XL and warrantied as such. Of course, there are some chips that are only tested for the XL requirements and not tested for the higher specs at all. Ultimately, they MAY be able to do those speeds, but there's no guarantee.
