Intel 915G Chipset - Questions on a new system!

Mr. Tee

Recommended Posts

Hello to everyone! :hihi:

Last week I sold my old system (865PE/3.0GHz/TwinX512-3200C2/GForce FX5900)

to a buddy of mine. The reason I bought the new system is because of all the

new features the 915/925 Chipsets had too offer, Including DDR2.

Spec's of my new PC:

--------------------

- ASUS P5FDC-V Deluxe (Intel 915G Chipset) MotherBoard (DDR1 & DDR2)

- Intel LGA 775 Pentium 4 (540) 3.2 GHz Processor

- Antec 480W "NeoPower" - ATX 12V v2.0 PS, Active PFC (120mm fan)

- Maxtor 250GB 7200RPM - 16MB Buffer - SATA II - NCQ

This week I went searching/researching for 1GB of Dual Channel DDR2 (533) memory

but seem to have stumbled on a few things that I hope someone can help me out with.

Please Note: I dont plan to overclock this System. Also Because Ive had so much

success with the XMS Line, Id like to stick with it vs. the Value Line.

----------------------------------

First I went Here to Check out what Corsiar Had:

http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/xms2.html

I noticed that TWIN2X1024-4300C3PRO (LED) were listed as PC2-4300 instead of PC2-4200

and that they ran @ 538MHz instead of 533MHz.

I then went searching several on-line shops for memory.

Alot of them had PC2-4200 & PC2-4300 both rated @ 533MHz.

 Whats the Difference? Are they both OK to use on this MoBo?

--------------------------------

I then searched on-line for XMS2 memery with these specs: PC2-4200 (DDR2 533)

and found out that a few company's had them even though they are not listed

here: http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/xms2.html

This is what I found: Corsair TWIN2X1024-4200 1024MB Kit DDR2-533 Retail

Where I found them:

http://www.bluebonepc.com/catalog/detail.asp?id=MM-CS-ddr2512

http://www.dttcomputer.com/catalog/detail.asp_id_MM-CS-TWIN2X1024-4200.html

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85016-31

 Where are these on the Corsair Website? Ive looked all over the place

and still cant find any tech info about them. Are they Discontinued?

Are they still a good Memory Choice?

Also the timings of these are 4-4-4-12 (TWIN2X1024-4200) vs 3-3-3-8 on the

TWIN2X1024-4300C3PRO. Is there a Major (or noticable) Difference in

performance between the two or is it minimal?

---------------------------------

And lastly, wanted to point out that all of your Premier Online Retailers in

North America (USA) are out of stock or dont carry the TWIN2X1024-4300C3PRO (LED).

http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/xms_order.html

I even checked in Canada with no luck. Whats the issue with this? Is there

a way I can order Directly form Corsair or am I out of luck. I could

have ordered another Brand but I've used the XMS series in 3 of my PC's

and Id like to contine to do so. Please advise.

Thank You in advance,

Tee

First thing, please see What does C2, LL, PT, R or RE stand for in the part#? in the F.A.Q. section, as that should help with some of these questions. In addition, PC-4200 verses PC-4300 is they way it's tested and or specked. So for all intensive purposes they are the same just different makers’ definition. However, we test our modules at 538 MHz in our production test thus PC-4300 speeds are guaranteed. And Twin2x1024-4200 is no longer available; you should use VS1GBKit533D2 instead or as you found Twin2x1024-4300C3 for best performance. And for where to Buy please see the list of Canada resellers Under the How to Buy Link on the main web page. Any of them should be able to order for you if they do not stock what you are looking for.

Thnaks for your reply RAM GUY!

I didnt want to buy something without hearing back for someone here.

Few more questions.... why isnt the Twin2x1024-4200 available anymore?

as stated before, I found 3 online retailers that carry it. If its not available

are there some type of archives for older memery?

My dilemma is that nobody seems to carry any Twin2x1024-4300C3 or

they are out of stock. I actually called 4 of the companys and they dont

have a clue on the arrival date.

Thats why I turned to the Twin2x1024-4200 line since a few companys

still have them in stock.

I live in the US (Texas), and what gets me  is that every

company listed on your "Premier Online Retailers" list has nothing.

Thats when I started to look for them in Canada...... No stock either.

Is there a way I can order them directly form Corsair since the "Premier Online Retailers" have

no stock? I cant believe Corsair would want to loose sales like this.
