You might check or clear the bios with just one module installed at a time and see if it may be a bad module. However, if you get the same result with both modules one at a time I would suspect some other problem, as all of XMS modules are tested at the tested settings on a MB before they leave our factory.

Possible, but doubtful.

The last time I had an issue where the fans would spin up (and stay on), but no VGA or booting would occur and the memory LED's would light up when it started, but in a very strange order, some red, some yellow, off patterns, etc ended up being a bad mainboard.

The memory I had, even though it looked soooo funky, wasn't the issue. I'd look at your board if I were you. Having the lights light-up really strangely usually means the memory is being accessed incorrectly, meaning a bad chipset on the mainboard.

yeah thats exactly what its doing but then eventually the lights would go out totally its been bugging me to hell and most times when your taught troubleshooting its the ram. could it be from a broken or loose connector on the ram slot?. because i think i might of accidently hit the ram and forced the slot to move some while sliding a drivebay out; so careless these days

If you suspect the memory is the cause of this, I would encourage you to see if a friend can help you test your memory in another system as that would help to isolate the memory from your system and give you an idea of the problem.

Just a question, but did you try the "good" module in the slot that you hit? Just to make sure?
