Possible Bad CMX512-3200C2PRO v1.0

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Components: X2

ASUS A7N8X Deluxe (PCB 2.0) Bios 1008 - latest

Athlon 3200+

Corsair CMX512-3200C2PRO (XMS3202v1.0) 1.5 GB - 3 sticks

Bios Setting:

6-3-3-2.5

CPU freq 200Mhz

All bios settings set to "Optimal"

Disable USB Legacy support

Symptoms:

While running memtest86 2 of 6 modules fail.

History:

I purchased (6) 512 sticks about a 11 months ago to build two identical systems (as listed above). I've been having stability issues for the entire time on one system but have just now gotten around to seriously diagnosing the problem. (I was running some beta software and thought my stability issues were software related, ooops. ) :)

I've now tested all 6 modules individually with memtest86 (version 3.2) and 4 sticks checkout fine while two fail. (they were both in one system). I've tested these modules on two identical MB with the same results. Again, 4 modules test fine and two fail, every time.

I've tested with "optimal" settings (ASUS optimal) and also manually set all options for underclocking. The four modules test fine with optimal settings and underclocking settings, the other two fail either way. I've let memtest86 loop all night to see if they fail at the same address each time, they do.

I have NOT played with dim voltage. These are not overclocked systems, we prefer them cool and quite as apposed to fast and loud. :)

I think I have two bad modules. (Serial #'s 0339027 & 0347153) Wadda ya think?

I would suggest you try the voltage set to 2.7 Volts to be sure, but I have no problem replacing the modules.

Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
