I think I have a bad stick of RAM

Recommended Posts

but im no expert. I have been getting random reboots to blue screen with the blue screen saying "memory management" problems. So i posted on motherboards.org to see if anyone could help me http://www.motherboards.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=417244#417244 I was advised to use memtest to check my RAM which I did. I have 2 sticks of Corsair CMX512Mb 3200LLPT ram. With both of them installed a fault was found so i narrowed it down to just one stick of ram. Now I have narrowed the faulty stick down what will be my next step. here are my specs

Abit IC7 Max3

P4 3.2

Corsair PC3200XMS 2x512

2 WD 80Gb HD with 8Mb cache

Hercules Radeon 9800XT

Antec Tru blue 460PSU

Lian Li PC75

Hope you can help RAM Guy

:): just noticed the link u had from last march! Yes its the same module, only now i think i know a little more about computers to get stuck in and have a go. Anyway update so far is that i think the increase in voltage from 2.6 to 2.8 in the BIOS has sorted it touch wood. However altho in the bios its set at 2.8 its still only getting 2.74 according to Motherboard monitor 5. Do i increase the BIOS to more than 2.8 so the rail is getting more than 2.74 as ive seen on the site the min for my memory is 2.75.

Most likely the PSU that you have is producing enough power but the board is only saying or reading a 2.74 voltage reading, or the other way around, that the board is producing more power even though the PSU only tells it to produce a certain amount or the voltage sensor on the board is reading an incorrect value.
