sth_
What options are there to run an Athlon64 (S939) based system with 2gb RAM (at DDR400 DualChannel with good timings)? The only solutions would be two double-sided 1gb modules (haven't seen any with CL2 timings yet) or 4 single-sided 512mb modules (which ones? timings? will dual-channel work as expected with this configuration?). Any suggestions? My next system is planned for early 2005 so there's still some time...
CMC_SAVAGE
If you're looking for better timings look at the TwinX 3200 LL or XL modules. Newer MOBO's should'nt have any problem running 2 GB.
sth_
I can't find any 2gb TwinX LL or XL sets on the Corsair homepage. The best I can find are the C2 sets. The 2-3-3-6-Timings would be ok, but the page says that these modules will only run with CL2.5 on AMD platforms. :(
CMC_SAVAGE
You would have to get 2 sets. (4 modules total). Either 2 of the LL's or the XL's. Any particular reason you need 2 GB of RAM?
sth_
You would have to get 2 sets. (4 modules total). That doesn't work as these modules are double-sided ones to my knowledge and A64s can't handle four of these at DDR400 (clocks down to 333mhz then). Any particular reason you need 2 GB of RAM? It's not meant to speed up CounterStrike ;-) The machine will be used for graphics, audio and video editing as well as programming work. 2gb is pretty standard in those areas these days. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 29, 2004 Then I would suggest Twinx2048-3200C2, sorry but Low latency 1.0 Gig modules are not available as of yet.
sth_
Then I would suggest Twinx2048-3200C2 What are the SPD-timings of these modules? Will they run CL2 or CL2.5 with Winchester Athlon64s? sorry but Low latency 1.0 Gig modules are not available as of yet. Can we expect these modules for early 2005? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2004 The tested settings are on Intel platform at Cass 2-3-3-6, but we have run many of the AMD64 systems at Cass 2. Just some will not run at Cass 2 so 2.5 would be suggested on AMD based systems. And the timings would need to be manually set as the SPD is set to JEDEC defined values of Cass 3-3-3-8. As far as when we will see low latency modules. I can’t say at this point other than we are testing new IC's every day and as soon as they are available we will release them.
