Nimaj
I am french and my english isn't very good. I hope you will understand my problem. I have a VS512MB400 module and since some days my computer reboots itself, i tested it(the module) with memtest and there were 26 errors in the firsts minutes. The timings were 2.5/3/3/8 and VDDR was 2.8V. I would like to know how to return my module to Corsair. Thanks My computer: A7N8X-E Deluxe AMD Athlon XP-M 2600+ 512Mo corsair value Tagan 380W

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 28, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 28, 2004 What bios version do you have installed on your MB? I would suggest you try the latest bios 1.012 or newer and then test the memory with http://www.memtest.org after you load setup defaults and set the Voltage and timings manually. In addition with the CPU you have you will need to set the memory frequency at 100% or DDR333 as well.
Nimaj
I have installed the latest bios (1013) and set the voltage and timings manually ( 2.8V and 2.5/3/3/8). The FSB is 200MHz and with memtest there are 23 errors in two passes. What must I do? Edit: Are the forward-ing charges reimbursed because I live in France? If you don't understand, in french: Les frais de ports sont-ils remboursés?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2004 You have to run the memory at DDR333 with the CPU you have, so please make sure that you have the memory frequency set to 100%
Nimaj
I had tested my computer with another module(adata module CL3) and there are not problem with the FSB at 200Mhz(400MHz). The computer doesn't crash under prime95 contrary to when i use the corsair module.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2004 This is a chipset limitation. If the FSB of your CPU is 400 For Intel and 100 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports only DDR 266. If the FSB of your CPU is 533 For Intel and 133/166 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports DDR 266/333 If the FSB of your CPU is 800 MHz for Intel and 200 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports DDR 333/
Wired
I had tested my computer with another module(adata module CL3) and there are not problem with the FSB at 200Mhz(400MHz). The computer doesn't crash under prime95 contrary to when i use the corsair module. However, have you tested the Corsair memory with the FSB @ 133 Mhz? Also concering your shipping question, you would pay for shipping to Corsair, and they would pay for the return shipment. However, some European resellers may help with the shipping for an RMA process.
Nimaj
I have tested the module with the FSB at 133MHz and there is no error during a pass, but when i put the FSB at 200MHz i had many error at the beginning of the first pass. I have also tested my other module (Adata 256Mo PC3200 CL3) with the same parameters (timings and voltage) and there wasn't any error during 3 passes(i stopped the test after). This proves my corsair module is bad. I am also trying to return my module to the reseller (dabs).Because to pay 16€ to return the module to corsair is very expensive. I hope you will understand my poor english.
Nimaj
I have got in touch with the reseller and he answered i had to send my module to corsair. But he also answered i will be reimbursed if the module is bad. I think the module is bad but i wait your confirmation.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 7, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 7, 2004 Again, please set the memory Frequency to DDR333 and test the system with http://www.memtest.org.
Nimaj
I have tried with FSB=166MHz and there is no errors with memtest http://img105.exs.cx/img105/7591/memtest15ca.jpg And when i put the FSB=200MHz there are some errors and my computer becomes unstable. http://img105.exs.cx/img105/168/memtest31st.jpg What must i do? I receive soon a 512Mo PC3200 XMS CAS2 Module i will be able to compare these two module.
Wired
Unless you are testing with a CPU that has a 400 Mhz FSB, it WILL have errors when the memory is set to 400 Mhz and the FSB is 333 Mhz, as on AMD systems they must be the same.
Nimaj
I have tested with another module which is normally worse than my corsair module and there isn't any error with memtest (with the same timings and voltages). I wait wednesday i will receive an other corsair module (512Mo PC3200 XMS CAS2) and i will test this module with memtest and i'm sure there won't be errors. Edit: i have never "desynchronized"(in french=desinchronisé) the memory, the FSB has the same frequency as the memory.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 13, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 13, 2004 If you try and run the memory at DDR400 with a 166 MHz CPU it will cause a bottleneck in the Chipset and may generate errors that are not the fault of the memory. Even if you do not get errors in memtest you will see poor performance running the memory out of sync.
Nimaj
I have tested my new corsair module and there isn't errors Test With 512Mo PC3200 Xms C2 Test with 512Mo PC3200 Value I think the Value module is really bad.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 15, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 15, 2004 What are the settings you had set for both CPU and memory?
Nimaj
The CPU works at 2200MHz (200*11) and the memory is at 200MHz 3/3/3/8 2.8V for the value ram and 200MHz 2.5/3/3/6 2.8V for the XMS ram.All these settings are manually in the bios. And you can verify with the links in my last post.
