kfedaddy2k
I had two sticks of CMX256A-3200C3PT memory running on my MSI 865PE Neo2-FIS2R motherboard. Operating system is Windows XP Pro, SP2. I have had them running dual channel (slot 1 and 3) for over a year now. About 3 weeks ago i started having random problems that usually ended in the system rebooting itself without warning. I received numerous errors, each one a little different. All were pointing to hardware problems when researching the windows error codes. After a week or so troubleshooting I downloaded MemTest-86 v3.2. It gave me errors on each test at 280.9MB is what it said. I then took the second stick of RAM out of slot 3 and re-ran the test, this time without a single error. I swapped the sticks, putting what was the second stick in slot 1 and removing the other one all together. This time it again failed every test that memtest-86 through at it. This leads me to believe that the second (slot 3) stick had gone bad. I attempted to return the memory to the place I had purchased it (PC Club) and I was told since it was over a year since I had bought it that I needed to deal directly with Corsair for warranty replacement. So here I am. If anyone has any ideas on any other possible fixes, I'd appreciate the assistance. Otherwise I will be filling out an RMA request soon. Thanks, Kurt
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 28, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 28, 2004 Can you tell me the CPU speed and its FSB? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you had set for both CPU and memory!
kfedaddy2k
CPU is an Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz with an 800 FSB (400MHz???). As for memory I let the motherboard read the chip for speeds and just about everything else was default. There is no over-clocking involved so everything is BIOS is pretty much left as default. This setup has worked for about 13 months now, all of the sudden, no changes to BIOS or anything, I started getting the errors. At first I tried upgrading all drivers, but that didn't help at all. The last thing I tried was the memtest86 and it failed on the second stick of RAM. I have since taken the second stick out and I have not had one single problem since (other than Half Life 2 not running up to par). Kurt
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2004 I would try setting the memory voltage to 2.7 Volts and see if that helps. If not we will be happy to replace them. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
