kydan47
I could not find anything in a search but wondered if anyone can tell me which mobo's are compatible with DDRAM 1GB TWINX1024R-3200C2 RT? It is registered but non-ecc (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-468&depa=1) I'm hoping to build around the memory (from prev build). I'm thinking it has to be an amd 940 socket but not sure. Any insight greatly appreciated. Kentucky dan
Yellowbeard
The spex page for your RAM HERE shows that the validation platform was an ASUS SK8N. Obviously, that is not your only choice but I don't remember any other socket 940 MOBOs off the top of my head. Mike.
Yellowbeard
Essentially, any server or workstation MOBO that requires registered memory will work. However, you will likely be getting into the more expensive platforms if you go with anything above the socket 940. There are plenty of Intel based options as well if you care to research it. http://usa.asus.com/products/server/serindex.htm Mike.
kydan47
SpecMike, Thanks for the responses, but I wondered if you could be more specific and/or answer another question or two? I bought the memory from Newegg and their product description says the memory is "Registered" but "non-ECC"? I read where Corsair does not make registered non-ecc memory? Is this true? If the memory is both registered and ecc, then I could use the one asus motherboard that was tested (Asus SK8N) or the list from the compatibility guide. I haven't seen anywhere Intel makes anything that uses registered ram. Thanks for responding. kentucky dan
Wired
Actually, Corsair doens't make non-registered, ECC memory. More Intel than AMD systems use registered memory, however ususally on server boards.
kydan47
Sounds good about the unregistered non-ecc, but do they make registered, non-ecc? If not, then it must be registered ecc and that would fit in several moderately priced mobo's and amd chips. I'm not wanting to go off the deep end if I can help it. I made the first build close to what I wanted with the P4 2.8 ht 800 fsb w/ asus p4c800e mobo, 1.5 gig ram, 80 gig hd, 160 gig hd, 9600 xt asus video, plus optical drives, etc. Thanks for responding. Wired
TWINX1024R-3200C2 is Registered, Non-ECC.
kydan47
Wired, I seem to be back to step 1. The validation platform was an ASUS SK8N. According to the specs on the SK8N, the board uses -Dual-Channel memory architecture -4 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 8GB registered PC2700 / PC2100/ PC1600 ECC DDR SDRAM memory It seems like the PC3200 is not mentioned, and the board specifies ECC. So how can the SK8N be the board to use for the DDRAM 1GB TWINX1024R-3200C2 RT ? It is not listed as being supported, and the ddr is not ecc? Also, what color does the T stand for? Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 29, 2004 Please ask your reseller as the "RT" at the end of the part# is not our part#.
Wired
The overview page about that board states that it can do 3200, while the spec sheet doesn't state it. Asus isn't the best at updating their site though :) Did some searching, seems that it can take 3200, doesn't show if the memory was in async or not though. Board looks like it can OC well, so maybe that's why. Also, found some evidence that it can go up to 2GB using 400MHz, and up to 8 GB using 266MHz or 333MHz, but no confirmation of this as of yet. Just read a review of this board in PC Mobos, they used registered ECC memory in the board, but disabled ECC for their tests. Also, dunno where the RT came from, but it's not part of the memory part #. Corsair's only made 2 colors, the normal black ones, and the platinum ones. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 29, 2004 And yes TWINX1024R-3200C2 or TWINX1024R-3200C2PT would be compatible with this MB. But you will need to ask your reseller what RT stands for as I have no idea, it's not our part# or anything we use in our part#.
Yellowbeard
Could it be an error or typo for PT (platinum) heatspreaders? Mike.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2004 Dont know, I really wish the reseller would just use our part#'s.
