aiden
Hi, I'm trying to buy a memory upgrade for my Thinkpad R50p notebook. The memory listed by the configurator tells me I need CMSS1GB-333SOD, but I can't find any information about it on your site. It does not seem to ship outside the US either. Do you recommend any other module?
Wired
http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/system_select.html http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/products/specs/PRODTEMPsystemselectv4.pdf The memory JUST came out like 2 days ago :) Also, the configurator's being updated as we speak with direct links to more retailers. I'd keep checking it every couple of days or so for new retailers.
aiden
That explains the lack of information, I guess. Too bad there is almost no information on the memory, so I can't really tell if it's worth the wait. I'm using the laptop basically as a desktop replacement, so maybe the XMS SODIMM module CMXSD512-2700LL would be a good choice? Seems to be limited to 512MB though. Another thing: Is it possible to run two memory chips with different latencies, or are they bound to run using their lowest common denominator? I already have the preinstalled 512MB module from IBM. Wired
They'll drop to the loosest latencies, and it isn't recommended to mix memory from different manufacturers.
aiden
Okay, thanks for the information. However, on the System Select document you linked to earlier, I get the feeling that it is guaranteed to work with the existing set up. Is that still not reccommended? Wired
Well those links only say computer compatibility, not memory, although it isn't specific. I'd keep it safe and don't mix them, although waiting for an official response from Ram Guy on monday wouldn't hurt either.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 29, 2004 I think Wired has for the most part answered your questions. And to reiterate what’s been said, these modules are made to me the OEMs requirement for Compatibility and should run in your system or as stated, or we will be happy to replace them or it. As far as working with memory you have installed, it is hard to give you a blanket answer, because some systems may have limitations that would prevent mixing modules of different densities. However, if your specific system will run with 2 modules of different sizes; they should be able to run with our modules installed. But that being said, in many cases, the best performance can be attained by using just our modules.
