dr_bobs1
Hi, this ram (TWINX1024R-3200C2PT) is not being detected properly by SPD by my new motherboard (Dual Opteron Gigabyte GA-7A8DW) So instead of running at what its rated at, 2,3,3,6 it defaults to 3,3,3,8 The reason I bought this ram at a premuim was to run at its fast settings. I contacted Gigabyte and they told me the ram will run at the SPD settings and the motherboard Bios doesnt allow manual settings. Anyone know whats going on or what I can do? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 24, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 24, 2004 I am sorry, but all of our modules with a "C2" designation will have their SPD set to JEDEC defined values for the IC we use on that specific part. And the tested settings would need to be manually set. You might try Twinx1024RE-3200LL instead as this part # would have its SPD set to Cass 2-3-2-6! dr_bobs1
so is this a good enough reason for a replacement of the ram from my supplier ?? seems like I have been caught by a compatiablity issue, which is the reason I went for Corsair in the first place... Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 24, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 24, 2004 Well I do not know if your reseller will accept it, but you can ask. But you should be able to set the timings manually. At the main bios screen hit CNTRL + F1 and then look under Advanced Chipset and see if you can set the memory timings manually and I would also set the Dim Over Voltage Control to +.2 Volts as well. dr_bobs1
This board GA-7A8DW uses a Phenix Bios not Award like all the other Gigabyte Boards I have used. I suspect that Control F1 doesn't work Phenix bios, But I really hope it does, I will try tonight. I contacted Gigabyte and they said: "Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. About the issue you mentioned, based on product specification, the memory speed setting is based on the info. that is saved in SPD chip." Thanks for you help, it is reasurring
