Pb with ram

Good morning,

I send you this message because since one month I have a probleme with my modules of "Corsair twinx platinum (2x512) Dual channel - Low latency". I bought it in July 2003 and it worked well at 2-3-3-6 on a motherboard asus p4p800 deluxe with p4c 2.8Ghz. And 3 or 4 weeks ago it started to cause some problems with these timing : reboot every 10 minutes (sometimes less), messages under windows (memory could'nt be read ....), error after bios (ram r/w failed). The only way to stop these problem is to put 2.5-4-4-8 as timing or worse :[pouts:

I have tried this memory on another pc with the same configuration it was the same thing and tried other modules on my pc : it worked fine.

So I would like to get a rma number in order to get some working modules again

Edit : - This config has never been overclocked

- I made some memtest+ with 2-3-3-6 timing and received a lot of errors since the fist pass of the test

Thank you,

M. Serra Aurélien

Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings;

TwinX1024 or TwinX512-3200C2

Advanced/Jumper Free

AI over clocking: Manual

CPU Freq: 200

DRAM Clock: 400 MHz

Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.75 Volts

System performance: Auto

AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!*

Advanced/Chipset

Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disabled/User define

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T

SDRAM Burst Length: 8

Performance Acceleration Mode: Auto

USB Legacy Support: Disabled

All other settings should be set to default settings!

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!

Good morning,

I made this test with all the settings you proposed to me (I used these settings for my past tests except the one about usb legacy port) and I got many errors for each module tested one at a time (for the first module 350 errors after 5 hours of test and for the second one 45 errors after 1 hour of test (10 passes)).

I think it is largely enough to process to a replacement of the modules

Thank you for your help

Hello,

As you requested I made another test on my brother's system :

ASUS P4C800 (chipset i875)

Sapphire 9800 Pro video card

Alimentation Antec 480W

Maxtor 120 GB

Pionner DVD Reader

My modules tested separately produced many errors with the settings you proposed to me (2-3-2-6 and even 2-3-3-6) but as always passed the test well with worse timings ...

My brothers system is new : we made the test again with his "Corsair TWINX1024-3200XL - TwinX 2x512 Mo DDR-SDRAM PC3200 X-Treme Low Latency" and no problems with 2-2-2-5 timings ...

So I tested his modules on my pc and it works well with 2-2-2-5 timings ...

If it is not sufficient I will test it again on another pc next week end (the pc is similar to mine) but i think i will have the same problems..

Thank you for all Ram guy,

Waiting for your help :):

With this MB you need to disable legacy USB when running any memory test. But I have no problem replacing your modules based on what you have posted. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

Hello,

Ok I made other tests this week end with the same results so I sent an rma request (online form) but I have not received an answer yet...

I was hesitating with some fields in the form : for the "Ticket#/PostID#" I put this thread number (#156663 ) and for module part number I didn't really know what to write as both modules have the same inscriptions on them so I wrote the string with only numbers which figure on each module ...

I hope this will be all right

The post ID is at the top of your post, and the part# would be like Twinx1024-3200C2 or CMX512-3200C2 depending on what you have. And C/S is open Monday-Friday 7:30AM to 4:00 PM Pacific time excluding holidays.

I made the online request again on Monday because the part# was not the good one on my first request but I have not received any answer yet ...

Is it normal? have to try another method ?

Thank you for all Ram Guy,
