Brav
My system is as described in my sig. I've replaced the mobo, CPU, tested the Video Card, and replaced the PS. I bought DDR2 Dual Channel XMS2 Memory - 512 x2 matched pair PC4300. Now, first off, is there a difference between 4300 and 4200? I can not tell the difference. I have figured out that it is the memory because one of the rails gets very hot right after I turn the machine on. Just gives me long beeps, no video. Then I remove one, and get nothing. then I replace the one with the other and get the beeps again. So it seems that one of the rails is bad.. either that or my board is not compatible? Its an 8I915P Duo Pro. Specs say it can handle 533mhz DDR2 memory..
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 23, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 23, 2004 I would try and reset or clear the bios with just one module installed and see if it will post.
Brav
I tried that - had gigabyte on the phone, had me pop the battery and do a "full reset" from underneath the batt tray (?). Im somewhat of a n00b. This is my first high(er) end system that I've built. I will try it again to make sure I had it set in correctly. What would make one of them heat up so much? Also - this site says my board is compatible with 675Mhz Memory - my specs say 400 or 533 - which is right?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 24, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 24, 2004 The modules are compatible. However, that does not guarantee that the other components will over clock to the required frequency to run the modules at their rated speed. They will however run at PC2-4300 Speeds by default and should not be a problem running at default settings. Just the modules you have were tested on a MB at the spec we rated them at. Please follow the link in my signature for the tested settings and MB we used.
Brav
I have tried everything at this point, replacing PS, CPU, Mobo, etc. Still wont boot - one of the modules is definately bad, as the machine wont even turn on. With the other module, it will turn on but not POST. Either way, I will need to replace both as they are matched Dual Ch. Need RMA please.
jsteel44
Would try in another system before completly writing it off.
Brav
Would try in another system before completly writing it off. I basically bought a new one. New CPU, went from Gigabyte mobo to Asus, and new PS, and tested the vid card. Dont have another system to test on, so I bought new components. Well not really, we have an open RMA policy if you are referring to the memory. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
