tbeckner
Intel D865PERL with P19 BIOS (latest BIOS) 1GB TwinX MMP - CMX512-3200C2 (XMS3202v3.1 0428052-1) D865PERL will not boot in Dual Channel Mode A1/B1 slots, boots correctly in single channel mode A1/A2 slots. Tried two different matched pairs, same situation. In addition, tried two different processors, P4 2.0GHzA and Celeron D 2.8GHz (Model 335), same situation. The only card in system is an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO AGP 8X with 256MB. Power Supply is ANTEC True 380S. System is brand new. Memory configures in single channel mode as 333MHz. RAS# Precharge 3 RAS# to CAS# Delay 3 CAS# Latency 3.0 RAS Act. to Pre. 7 BTW, Intel BIOS does not allow memory voltage configuration changes. Does anyone have any ideas? :):
Wired
Sounds like it's the memory controller on the chipset. Try the memory in other systems just to be safe.
Yellowbeard
Also, just to be thorough, run http://www.memtest86.com on each stick individually. Run each for 5-10 passes. Mike.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 24, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 24, 2004 I would agree, and testing them in another system may help isolate the problem. However, what you have posted would suggest MB/Chipset problem.
tbeckner
Thanks for your replies. :): I would also agree that the problem is with the motherboard, not the memory. I will be testing the memory in an ASUS P4B800 SE this Friday. UPDATE: 12/2/2004 - Installed ASUS P4P800 SE and memory, it worked the first time in dual-channel mode. Intel will be getting a call from me tomorrow about both D865PERL motherboards. In over 100 builds/installs, ASUS and Corsair have never let me down. I may have had to do BIOS upgrades on ASUS for new functionality, and I have had one stick of memory go bad (out of over 250 sticks), but knock on wood, never anything worst than that. :): ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have built well over 100 machines in the past 6 years and I have always used Corsair memory in all of them and I never ran into a problem like this, but I have always used ASUS motherboards (P2B, P2BD, P3BF, CUSL2, TUSL2, P4B533-V, P4GE-V/L, P4P8X, P4R800-VM, P4B800 SE as examples, and all of those machines, some with upgrades, are all still running today). This was the second time I built a machine with an Intel motherboard, which is actually a FOXCONN, the first was a D815EEA2U. In fact, I have a second brand new Intel D865PERL motherboard here with another problem, so this is most likely my last Intel motherboard build. At one time, Intel outsourced some of their motherboards to ASUS; it's to bad they dropped that contract.
tbeckner
I am bumping this post, so that everyone will know that Intel was to blame, not Corsair. Installed memory in P4P800 SE and booted, memory configured as dual channel without problem. Intel D865PERL would not even boot BIOS with memory installed in dual-channel configuration. Other D865PERL will not boot at all.
