mike08a
Using Corsair Twinx1024-3200XL on Chaintech v3-250 with Athlon 64 3000+ mb. System crashes with both sticks installed; works fine with only 1 (512MB). Either stick works in Bank 1. Using second stick in Bank 2 or 3 makes no difference. BIOS is current; no help from mb manufacturer. Any ideas?
Wired
Tried one stick at a time in banks 2 or 3? Ran http://www.memtest.org at all? FYI, you may want to check out the House of Mobos for mobo help (soon to be http://www.houseofmobos.com as soon as the URL gets redirected, currently linked @ http://www.asusforums.org)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 22, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 22, 2004 Please put the memory module on slot 1 & 3; make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB, and set the following settings on your BIOS; TwinX512 or TwinX1024-3200XL CPU Clock: 200 Memory Clock: 200 or 400MHz CPU/DRAM ratio: 1:1 Spread Spectrum: Enabled DDR Voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* Advanced Chipset: Memclock Mode: Limit Memclock Value: 2:1 (DDR400) Bank Interleaving: 4/Enabled Burst Length: 4 SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T Hypertransport: 4X All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure! mike08a
Thanks, I'll try it for curiosity, but I tweaked the timings to 2,3,3,6 and it now works. Could be just one setting makes a difference.
Wired
Tried one stick at a time in banks 2 or 3? Ran http://www.memtest.org at all? Problem is, they're rated @ 2-2-2-5, so they should at least do 2-3-2-5, as some systems don't like the Ras to Cas Delay to be 2.
mike08a
Thanks for the tips. I changed the timings manually to 2-2-2-5 and set the DDR voltage to 2.7; ran memtest twice. Everything seems to work fine. I noticed Ram Guy recommended setting AGP voltage to 1.6v for ATI 9200 or 9600. What about ATI 9800 Pro? Make any difference, now? :):
Wired
If it has its own power lead from the PSU, don't worry about it.
