webmal
Both AnandTech and Xbitlabs conclude that 1GB RAM does not improve gaming performance in Doom3 which is the most intense game to date. * http://www.anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=2156&p=2 * http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/doom3-cpu_6.html According to Crucial (parent Micron is top 3 biggest memory manufacturer), it's not about how much RAM your system has, RAM speed is much more important when gaming: http://www.crucial.com/pdf/CrucialDoom3.pdf I also noticed that users on 3DMark03 Hall of Fame list are mostly using 512MB RAM. Hence my question: when overclocking, will I get better performance with 2x256MB 3200XL (2-2-2-5) instead of 2x512MB 3200 (3-3-3-8)? Thank you. CMC_SAVAGE
How about 2x512 3200XL (2-2-2-5). I would'nt run less than 1GB.
Yellowbeard
I agree with CMC Savage. 2 x 512mb of the PC3200XL is the way to go. You can have the low latency and a gig of RAM. Also, and especially in P4 rigs, the double sided DIMMs (the 512s are DS) outperform single sided DIMMs (256mb = SS). The memory controller is able to more efficiently access DS DIMMs due to the bank interleave. For gaming a FAST LOW LATENCY gig of RAM is the :bomb: Mike.
