scottbrass
After having sporadic problems for about a year, I tested using the Memtest86 (1.27) and had many errors with one stick, but not with the other. I tried relaxed timings and settings that you have advised in other posts, but one stick always passes with flying colors while the other shows multiple errors in tests 4 and 5 (always) and sometimes errors in tests 3, 6 & 7. I have an A7N8X ver. 2.0 motherboard, and tried all memory slots. I'm now just running fine on the 1 good stick. Please advise and let me know if I will need to send in both sticks or just the bad one. Thanks.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 22, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 22, 2004 Can you tell me the exact model# of your memory module and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me if you have the latest BIOS installed on your system and the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set? scottbrass
Corsair TwinX CMX256A-2700LL xms2705v1.2 xms2700 256MB 333MHz 2225 - T1 (that's everything listed on the stick) ASUS A7N8X (non-deluxe) rev. 2.0 Mobile Athlon XP 2500+Barton 166 (FSB) X 13 (CPU multiplier) Latest BIOS from Asus site for this board Also tried the stick in my wife's A7V333 with an Athlon XP 2100+ with the same results. I have used the following memory timings on the A7N8X and errors still occur: 2-2-2-5 2-2-2-11 2-3-3-11 2-3-3-5 2.5-3-3-5 3-3-3-5 2-3-3-6 etc, etc Memory frequency 100% FSB Spread Spectrum on (any range) or off makes no difference in results The good stick runs at SPD timings (or any other timings) with no problems. The memory from my wife's PC will work with the other (good) stick in dual channel, no problems, no errors. I have four case fans and a good CPU heatsink so it runs cool. It seems pretty likely this stick is bad. Please advise and let me know if both sticks need to be sent back or just the bad one. Thanks.
