pcfixerhough
I recently ordered more memory that was on sale. My system was originally built with a matched pair of CMX512-3200C2PT sticks in slots 1 and 3 and has been running great. I ordered in a value select kit vs1gbkit400 and put them in slots 2 and 4. During the system boot up I received an error about the spd chip not being present or the data not being valid. In my troubleshooting I discovered that as long as I didn't put memory in slots 1 and 3 I could use slots 2 and 4 without problems. I could also put memory in slots 1 3 and 4 and have it all show up as DDR400. I also discovered it didn't matter which set of chips I used for slots 2 and 4, the problem crops up as soon as I put that 4th chip in. The only thing I haven't tried yet is putting stuff in slots 1 2 and 3, the discovery with slot 2 was by accident as I hadn't clipped down both sides of the chip. Is this being caused by mixing the two different chip types? Your thoughts are appreciated, during the troubleshooting I replaced the kit modules and the new modules do the same thing.. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 22, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 22, 2004 John, I am sorry, but you would not be able to mix memory with most MB's today. Please use modules that are the same part# and revision for best performance and compatibility.
