Kris Jacobs
I have got a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard on the FedEx truck right now. I have not purchased CPU or RAM yet -- I intend to put a FX-55 CPU on it. I want to put TWINX1024-3200XLPRO memory on it. I want 2GB total RAM, and I want the 2-2-2-5 Extra Low Latency product. Therefore, I'm thinking I would put 2 TWINX1024-3200XLPRO packages on my motherboard -- for a total of 4 512MB memory modules. 1. Are these modules single or double sided? In the PDF manual I have for this motherboard, it says that to run DDR400 with all 4 slots populated, the modules have to be single sided. 2. Will I run dual channel this way OK? 3. If this will work out, do I put one TWINX pair in slots 1&2, and one TWINX pair in 3&4? Thanks!
Kris Jacobs
I have done some more searches here, and found that I cannot have DDR400 with the above configuration. Seems it would be better for me to run TWINX2048-3200PRO if I want 2GB of total RAM right? Would the performance difference be substantail? 2GB total RAM with TWINX2048-3200PRO DDR400 at 3-3-3-8 vs. 2GB total RAM with 2 TWINX1024-3200XLPROs DDR333 at 2-2-2-5 Thanks! Wired
TwinX2048 is better overall.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 20, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 20, 2004 The performance of the 2 pairs of TwinX1024-3200XL modules will be better than the TwinX2048-3200 modules; the CAS latency of the XL modules may not run at 2/2/2/5, since we only guarantee our modules at a pair. So I rather suggest you to use our TwinX2048-3200C2 modules, rather than just the regular 3200 non C2/LL/Pro, since the C2 has CAS settings of 2.5/3/3/6.
