commy
i have 2x 256MB 3500C2 sticks. They both work in my nf7s, but in my new dfi board, only one works. :( I know the dfi board is fine because twinx 3200LL will boot up just fine. Could i have a bad stick? and if i do, what happens if i rma it? bh5 doesn't exist... and any new chip will be incompatible with my other stick of bh5 :sigh!:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 19, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 19, 2004 Can you tell me the model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
BTTB
Interesting discussion on the old BH5 Chips on the NForce 3 Board. I don't mean to barge in, but perhaps RAM Guy can answer a question for me? My latest set up is a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum I was trying out 2 sticks of 512MB PC3500C2 V1.1 which are working fine in my NF7-S Rev2.0. The ram just makes the bios beep. Tried it on a Asus NF4 set-up as well. Same story. When I bought this Ram I paid a arm and a leg for it. Cost me the equivalent of about $500 each. Seems a pity to have to refine this Ram to a NF2 Board forever? Is their hope for this Ram in my new machine or should I just give up?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 4, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 4, 2006 Please run CPU-Z and see whats set in the SPD of the modules in your NF2 system.
BTTB
Hello RG. :): Good that you ask as I always thought I had identical modules? It doesn't seem to be the case? Both Modules say CMX512-3500C2 Module 1: Ferquency @ 166 Cas - 2 Ras to Cas - 4 Ras Precharge - 3 TRas - 7 Ferquency @ 200 Cas - 2.5 Ras to Cas - 4 Ras Precharge - 4 TRas - 8 Module 2: Ferquency @ 166 Cas - 2 Ras to Cas - 3 Ras Precharge - 3 TRas - 7 Ferquency @ 200 Cas - 2.5 Ras to Cas - 3 Ras Precharge - 3 TRas - 8 I am running the ram at 2:2:2:6 @ 200FSB on my NF7-S Rev 2.0 With the difference in the Ram Timings, what Ram do I have here? There is so much conflicting reports on the internet about these early 3500 modules.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 4, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 4, 2006 It looks like you have one module made before the DDR400 spec was rattified and one that was made after. Please call our Tech Support at 1-800-205-7657 when you are in front of your system and we can try and help you solve the problem. Our hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM Pacific Time Monday thru Friday excluding holidays.
BTTB
Thanks RG. Without having to phone Support as I live in South Africa and Telkom our Telecom's Monopoly has the highest call costs on the planet. Over here we can barely afford ADSL. Could we not perhaps ask Support for some advice via email. It may take a little longer, but I am not fussed. You have indicated that these two Ram Modules are not identical? From what I can gather is that I may never be able to get them to work together in my NForce 3 set-up? But lets see what support says first. Can you email them with the SPD details and my email. They could Skype me?

BTTB
Hello Mr RG. It was really nice to chat to you as well! Not often I hear that distinct American accent over here. :sunglasse You caught me off guard. I thought it was one of my friends on the phone. Hehe. Give me a bit of time on this one. Everyone knows that BH5 chips are the best and you say they can be reprogrammed to reflect the correct SPD. Could they be programmed to the same timings as my current ram which is identified by CPU-Z as CMX512-3200XL rated at 200MHz as 2:2:2:5 ? What chips are in these modules as a matter of interest? If I had to ask for an RMA, what chips would they be replaced with? Then I can do some homework on those chips in the interim. I only plan to replace my sons set-up later this year with a AMD 64 Board. So lets see what I find out. Thanks RG ;): Regards, BTTB
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 10, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 10, 2006 I am not sure what part# we would replace them with as it may change depending on when you do the RMA. But right now we would either replace for the same part# or for CMXXXX-3200XL modules. XMS3200XL uses Samsung TCCD memory IC's and the the SPD for your modules would be set to JEDEC Spec for the IC we used or DDR400 at Cas 2.5-3-3-8. I will asnwer the rest of your questions by email.
