quicksilverXP
Here is my stick: XMS3208v1.1 0433056-0 This stick fails on an MSI K8N Neo2, and Abit AV8, and a DFI Lanparty UT 250GB at 5-2-2-2 no matter what voltage, command rate, etc. I've tried all settings. I put in another pair of TCCD sticks and they work the same..... so it must be the memory module.... how do I get around to RMAing it?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2004 The MSI K8N Neo2 MB; for some reason it doesn't want to run the memmory module in a 2/2/2/5 timing setting so please try to set it at 2/3/2/5, make sure you have the latest BIOS installed in your MB and load optimized/optimal default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; TwinX512 or TwinX1024-3200XL Advanced Chipset: Memclock Mode: Manual (400) Bank Interleaving: 4/Enabled Burst Length: 4 SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T Command Rate: 1T Frequency Voltage Control: Spread Spectrum: Enabled CPU FSB Clock: 200 DDR Voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure! quicksilverXP
Latest BIOS is installed... I even tried the 1.36 Beta bios and the 1.41 beta bios. I wouldn't want to try 2/3/2/5 because I would like 5-2-2-2. Nonetheless.... I'll try those settings you gave me to see if it will work at 5-2-2-2. Also, the AV8 and the DFI Lanparty UT are all updated BIOSes as well and I also have other sets of TCCD modules that run fine... I honestly think its the module. But I'll go ahead and try your settings and see if it works.. *edit* just to point out... it's only one 512MB module.... and I always use Memtest first before anything to run tests... so when I say a module isn't working.... I mean it doesn't pass memtest... The MSI K8N Neo2 MB; for some reason it doesn't want to run the memmory module in a 2/2/2/5 timing setting so please try to set it at 2/3/2/5, make sure you have the latest BIOS installed in your MB and load optimized/optimal default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; TwinX512 or TwinX1024-3200XL Advanced Chipset: Memclock Mode: Manual (400) Bank Interleaving: 4/Enabled Burst Length: 4 SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T Command Rate: 1T Frequency Voltage Control: Spread Spectrum: Enabled CPU FSB Clock: 200 DDR Voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts All other settings should be set to default settings! quicksilverXP
Ok.... I tried the new settings... and it still won't work at 5-2-2-2..... I'm thinking it's just a bad module. Let me know what else I can do.
quicksilverXP
Well... I take it since there is no more response... then I've had all the techinical support I can get. So... can I just use this thread of proof of contacting technical support? I'll go ahead and try to RMA through your online form.
Wired
No, you just have to be patient, however your posts are a bit unclear on one thing. RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T Did you try that setting @ 2 or 3? If not 3, please try it. If no go, then I'd surmise your RMA request will be approved. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 18, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 18, 2004 If you have tried to set it with a RAS to CAS (TRCD) set to 3, and still giving you problem on your system, then I will suggest to get them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
quicksilverXP
If you have tried to set it with a RAS to CAS (TRCD) set to 3, and still giving you problem on your system, then I will suggest to get them replace. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! Ok thanks so much. I actually tried it at 5-2-3-2 and it worked. But the problem is, I'm doing a memory roundup on all the Low Latency memory on the market... and since Corsair didn't send us any.. we just decided to buy it since Corsair is a very reputable company for memory. So we NEED 5-2-2-2.... because that is what is exactly specified on the packaging. With that in mind, I already submitted an RMA request using my first post as a POST ID... but I never got a response back... is there any way you can hceck up on it? Wired
You may want to call in about it, especially if you're reviewing it, for if I'm correct about one aspect, you'll like the result.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 19, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 19, 2004 Our RMA or Customer service department should have replied to you buy now, if you didn't get any response yet, then please send the email to me ramguy@corsairmemory.com and I will see they get it first thing in the morning! Customer Service answers emails normally before 10AM every day, but we are also closed on the weekend! The XL modules will definitely run at 2/2/2/5, but the problem is the BIOS on the MSI K8N Neo2 MB, again for whatever reason it doesn't want to run in a 2/2/2/5 CAS latency setting. quicksilverXP
Ok...it's been a LONG time already and NO ONE from Corsair has contaced me. I've sent an RMA TWICE to CS and one directly to the RAM GUY and have gotten nothing and I've been inquiring about this since October. What the hell is going on. Wired
I'd say your email address is getting filtered by their spam filter, as they're very good at responding. PM me your info and I'll send it to RG, as I know my email address doesn't get filtered. That and I have other ways to make them talk, mwahahahah :)

Just as a data pint, I got off the phone with MSI Tech Support and they are not aware of any issues with the MSI K8N Neo2 MB BIOS not being able to properly set 2-2-2-5 memory timings. Not only did the gentlemen I speak to state this, but he also spent about 5 mins checking around in his office regarding the issue. I'm still investigating. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 22, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 22, 2004 Well I think the wording in my post is not clear and maybe a bit blunt. However, it's not the MB so much as it is the actual configuration and or CPU used that may not run at Cass 2-2-2-5 and not only with MSI's MB but all of the MB's for socket 939. At any rate, I would suggest testing the memory with the Dim Voltage set to 2.8 Volts and the timings set manually to Cass 2-3-2-5 with the Rass to Cass set to "3" and see if that solves the problem, if you are having problems. In addition, by default the MSI bios will not run the modules at the SPD setting you have to enable top performance in the bios and then the timings will be set to Cass 2.0.
