Hannes
Hey... I am having a slight problem with my Corsair RAMs. PC Stats AMD 64 3000+ K8T Neo 1.1 DIMM Slot 1 (Came as an offer with the Board): VS512MB400 Then because i liked the Speed of the Value Select i went and bought a good RAM of Corsair, that beeing a XMS with the model number: CMX-3200SC2 and it says XMS 3200! Both RAMs are PC3200/400. Now the Problem.... I can easily boot with the Value Select. I can also easily boot with the XMS. But you try putting both together! My screen stays black ALL my keyboard LEDs light up and my HHD LED won't stop blinkin'. Could it be, that those 2 models aren't compatible with each other?! Thx in advance.. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2004 First of all I wouldn't suggest you mixing and matching memory module, since it may or may not work, but definitely will not work with our XMS modules. If you can, just return the XMS module and get another stick of VS512MB400, or if you can try to find a use for the VS512MB400 then I will suggest you get another stick of the exact same module, or better yet return it and purchase the TwinX1024-3200C2 modules. Hannes
Would it work though, if i keep the current XMS i have and then later on when i buy lets say the TwinX1024.. would they be compatible? Cuz in then end you just have 3 x 512 XMS 3200 @ 400 --> slowed down to 333 due to the board :(... Thx..
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2004 No that will only run at DDR200 or PC1600, if all double sided, if single sided it will be DDR333 or PC2700, but there is no memory manufacturer that makes 512MB chip or above in a single sided module, only double sided. Hannes
But if i left my current XMS3200 in would it run with that TwinX1024? In the end it'll slow down a bit the board manual said from 400 to 333 Mhz clock.. but my main issue would be if i keep the XMS and sell the VS512MB400 would the TwinX1024 (which are just 2 512 sticks i thinks) be compatible with that XMS3200 so i woul end up with 1536MB RAM? Thx Hannes
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2004 Yes that will be correct, they are not compatible, since the XMS modules are configured differently, it may or may not work, but we can not guarantee it. Hannes
so that is risky again.... my poor little account :P I dunno! Cuz good RAM is really expensive! Anyway Thx again! Hannes
Hannes
Hi, sorry i have to start this again, but i just went out and bought a CMX512-3200 to match my allready exising CMX512-3200 They look both exactly the same! Bus as i put them in i noticed my screen stayed black again! So i had a closer look and compared the two RAMs ( I am running with the first XMS i bought) the one i bought today is a XMS3205v1.2 (CMX512-3200LL) and the other i allready had is a XMS3202v5.1 (CMX512-3200C2) and guess what they don't run together! so i take it they have to be exactly identical to work together, plus my K8T Neo board doesn't even startup with only LL in it... dunno why.. it goes to the windows loading screen and then just reboots! Wierd.. HELP ME RAM GUY! :D Thank you again in advance! Hannes
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 23, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 23, 2004 Hannes, I am sorry but you cannot mix memory with most MB's today. And the modules you have are different part #'s for one thing, and second even if they are the same part# but have a different revision they may not work together. So to be clear if you want to run 2 modules in almost any system they would have to be the same exact part # and revision. Or sometimes you can get 2 modules to run in the same system but you would need to set the memory frequency and timings manually because the MB cannot decode 2 different SPD's. That is why it is telling you there is no memory in the system. Use one module and then set the memory Frequency manually to DDR333 or DDR400 depending on your CPU and set the timings manually to Cass 2.5-3-3-7 and set the Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts and set it to single channel mode and then exit saving changes and let the system boot to a floppy or CD and then turn it off and install the other module. Or the best way would be to find another use for the older module and just get a set of Twinx1024-3200XL modules and you would be good to go.
