CEMAN
Hi, I bought some TWINX1024-4000 (500Mhz) bout 3 months ago but i never got around to overclocking them. Now heres the story.. i recently tried overclocking it 500Mhz without any success. It crashes while loading Windows XP. I thought maybe my CPU has been maxed out, i asked a couple of my friends and one of them who happen to have the same setup as me except he has TWINX1024-3700 (463Mhz) and he has successfully overclocked his Corsairs to 500Mhz FSB without any problems at all. I thought that maybe my CPU is just bit flakey or something. We decided to do some tests and i put his Corsairs (TWINX1024-3700) into my machine to see if it does any better. Infact my system ran very smoothly with his Corsairs @ 500Mhz FSB and everything was tested fine even in Memtest86. We then proceeded to putting my Corsairs in his machine and see what results again. Again it fails at the same spot as it did on my macine @ 500Mhz. So i can truely say that one of or both of my Modules are faulty. I have proceeded in testing the modules with Memtest and here are the results. Note: i tested the modules both together and individualy and on different slots and tested with 10passes Memtest86 Ver3.1a PIV @ (3.0Ghz/200/200 FSB) - Both Sticks - No Errors PIV @ (3.0Ghz/200/200 FSB) - Stick 1 - No Errors PIV @ (3.0Ghz/200/200 FSB) - Stick 2 - No Errors PIV @ (3.75Ghz/250/250 FSB) - Both Sticks - Quite alot of errors PIV @ (3.75Ghz/250/250 FSB) - Stick 1 - No Errors PIV @ (3.75Ghz/250/250 FSB) - Stick 2 - Lots of errors, About 200 of them in 2 passes Now please do note that i have already updated the BIOS to latest version and ofcourse when overclocking CPU/RAM raitio running on 1:1. I have also made the AGP/PCI slots Fixed speed (66/33) and changed the latency for the Memory as 3,4,4,8 I have also tried running the same tests on my friends machine which came up with the same results. My PC specs are below as follows. P4 3.0b (Northwood) Using Zalmen full Copper base HSF (FANZL-CNPS7000B-Cu) Abit IC7 - Bios ver: 2.6 Corsair TWINX1024-4000 (2 x 512,500mhz) Thermaltake Silent PurePower 480W Butterfly Series Lian Li Black Aluminium Medium Case 2 x Western Digital 120gb IDE HDD I think thats all you need The only question is... Does this mean one of my sticks are faulty? Thanks Steven
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2004 Please put the memory module on slot 1 & 3; make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB, and set the following settings on your BIOS; TwinX512 or TwinX1024-4000 Softmenu Setup CPU Operating Speed: User Define CPU Clock/AGP/PCI: 250/66/33 Memory Clock: 400MHz CPU/DRAM ratio: 1:1 AGP ratio: Fixed AGP/PCI: 66/33 Spread Spectrum: Enabled DDR Voltage: 2.8/2.85 Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* Advanced Chipset: SDRAM Timing Settings: User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 3T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 4T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 4T All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure! CEMAN
Thanks for the quick reply Ramguy.. heres the results Stick 1 @ 3.75Ghz/250/200 - No Errors (10 pass) Stick 2 @ 3.75Ghz/250/200 - No Errors (10 Pass) I've also forgot to note that when i was overclocking them to 500Mhz i upped the CPU voltage to 1.652 from 1.552. If i do not up the CPU voltage they both dont work. So the above tests @ 3.75Ghz were at 1.652v
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 18, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 18, 2004 Are you still having problems on the system when you run both memory modules?
CEMAN
Are you still having problems on the system when you run both memory modules? on 250/250 yes only with 1 module though so i was wondering if i could exchange that faulty module
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 19, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 19, 2004 Thanks for the quick reply Ramguy.. heres the results Stick 1 @ 3.75Ghz/250/200 - No Errors (10 pass) Stick 2 @ 3.75Ghz/250/200 - No Errors (10 Pass) I've also forgot to note that when i was overclocking them to 500Mhz i upped the CPU voltage to 1.652 from 1.552. So the above tests @ 3.75Ghz were at 1.652v on 250/250 yes only with 1 module though so i was wondering if i could exchange that faulty module By setting the system the CPU clock at 200, with a 400MHz FSB memory clock, and changing the CPU clock without changing the memory FSB will run you a 1:1 ratio, which will be 250/250, you do not have to change the FSB clock of your memory. Please let me know if this is exactly what you did to your system or...?
CEMAN
By setting the system the CPU clock at 200, with a 400MHz FSB memory clock, and changing the CPU clock without changing the memory FSB will run you a 1:1 ratio, which will be 250/250, you do not have to change the FSB clock of your memory. Please let me know if this is exactly what you did to your system or...? ok basically on my motherboard settings i overclocked the CPU FSB to 250 and ran the ratio 1:1 which will give me 250/250 now on that setting one of the modules are giving me errors on Memtest The other test i was doing 250/200, i achieved this by overclocking my CPU FSB to 250 and running the ratio as 5:4 which will give me 250/200 as a result. I ran Memtest on these settings just to see if it was my CPU causing the errors which it wasnt because both modules ran through fine. So in conclusion with the tests i have done i assume one of my modules is not stable or its faulty at 250mhz (500mhz). I do not have a seperate section on my IC7 to change the CPU FSB and Memory clock. i can only change the CPU FSB and the ratio. I only changed the ratio to 5:4 and set the CPU clock to 250 and ran a test due to your first reply. Thats what im assuming you are trying to tell me to do anyway
