martyncarr
Hi I have just purchased 2 CMX1024-3200PT for my K8NS pro motherboard. I have now read on the Gigabyte website that Socket 754 AMD 64's dont support 2 double sided sticks at 400MHz and will run them at 333MHz. Here is the link to their website. http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/FAQ/FAQ_444.htm I am understanding this correctly? Are my sticks double sided? How do I know if my RAM is running at 400MHz or 333MHz. Thanks Martyn
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2004 Yes, all 512 Meg DDR modules and larger at this time are double sided. However, we have been able to run 2 modules on most MB's with this chipset by installing then in slots 2-3 or 1-3 and setting the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts. martyncarr
I have them running OK. Im not sure at what speed though. From what I have read no AMD 64's will run 2 double sided dimms at 400MHz. It slows them down to 333MHz. It looks like ill need another MB! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2004 Please let us know, but most of the MB's we have tested will run no more than 2 double sided modules at DDR400 with out problems.
sanoptic
I also use a K8ns pro & have no problems using 2x 512mb Corsair pc3200c2 rev 5.1 sticks at 400Mhz. I went into bios and set the memory timings to manual & entered the settings Corsair recommend i.e 2.5-3-3-6. If you leave it on auto it defaults to 333Mhz. Good luck
martyncarr
Thanks, I got it working at 200MHz by upping the voltage to 2.7V as suggested by RAM GUY. It was not stable though and PCMark memory benchmarks seemed the same as at 166MHz (3399 just for the memory test). I could probably fiddle with the timings to get it stable but I have ordered a new MB now so I wont bother. Martyn
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2004 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; CMX1024 or CMX512-3200 Advanced Chipset Features (Ctrl + F1) DRAM Clock: Manual 400 MHz Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disabled/User define SDRAM CAS Latency: 3T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T SDRAM Burst Length: 4 SDRAM Bank Interleave: 4/Auto/Enabled Frequency Voltage Control CPU Freq: 200 Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts (+.2) AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI 9200 or 9600 then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure! martyncarr
The BIOS was setting tRAS to 7. I changed it to 8 as advised and everything seems OK now. I have not had time to run memtest yet. I get the exact same bechmark results for PCmark and 3DMark at both 333MHz & 400MHz speeds. That doesent seem right but I have tried it a few times. Any thoughts?
