A7N8X-Deluxe PCB2.0 & XMS3202v4.2 crashes & freezes

Hello Ram Guy.

I have a little problem with my newly purchased Corsiar RAM Modules. I chenaged from two 512MB elixir 333MHz Modules to two "CMX512-3200C2 - XMS3202v4.2" 400MHz modules. Now my system Hangs everytime some RAM hungry Program runs (like Bittorrent or the Game FarCry)

I already ran Memtest with both modules combined and one at a time :

The only test that fails is Test #6 with a different adress each time. The error pattern would be "00 ff ff ff" every time. This error is occuring in any combination (slots0,1,2, dual- single Channel one or two modules and so on).

Ill get about 4 errors in 5 passes, so not in every pass there is a error :(

I have a

Asus A7N8X-Deluxe PCB2.0 BiosRev. 1008-D

AthlonXP3000+ 400MHz

2x XMS 400MHz @ 8 3 3 CL3

Radeon9800Pro

all settings CPU/RAM are on optimal or auto!

I did not buy the ram as a TwinX Set. And i never overclocked anytrhing. And i doubt that it is a heat releated problem, sometimes the system crashes just after boot (30sek uptime)

Please Ram Guy, help me!!! Please let it be just BIOS settings and not defective modules!!!

many thanks in advance

Please make sure that you have the jumpers set at 2-3 rather than the default 1-2 and that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/Optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings;

TwinX1024 or TwinX512-3200C2

CPU Freq: 200 MHz (400 FSB)

System Performance: User Define

Memory Frequency: 100%

Resulting Frequency: 200 MHz (400 FSB)

Memory Timing: User Define

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T

DDR Reference Voltage: 2.7 Volts

AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!*

All other settings are motherboards defaults

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!

Thx, I will try that.

by the way, with RAM frq. set to 333MHZ it runs fine, no errors at all. Is that a sign for healthy RAM or could the modules still be damaged? I think this is just a rethorical question. No need to answer that until i tested your settings :)

It is really hard to tell, since you bought a 400MHz FSB memory and running it at 333MHz shouldn't be a problem, but I do not think you would like to run it at that speed. Bottom line is that this memory should work without any problem at DDR400 speed with a CAS timing settings of 2.5/3/3/6 if you have 1 CMX3200C2 or TwinX3200C2 modules.

Sorry it took me so long...

I tested and reconfigured a little bit.

I tested all your settings, checked the jumper is locked on 400MHz for FSB, but the errors still occur.

As i said, ich checked some other settings as well, and i have excluded all optional Hardware, to be sure it is nothing else. It it safe to say that at 333MHz RAM-Clock everything works "fine", meaning no errors in memtest.

As soon as i try ANY setting at 400MHz i'll get those test#6 errors in memtest.

this is frustrating... But at least it is stable now at 333MHz. (stay positive...)
