Single sided 4GB modules use 4Gbit ICs. Single sided 2GB modules use 2Gbit ICs. So you can't compare those. 4Gbit ICs are also used to produce 8GB double sided sticks. I personally never had any luck getting 4Gbit ICs to work on LGA775. Even some of the newer 2Gbit stuff just won't work. The system will not POST at all with any settings, even preconfigured (tested with abit IX48-GT3 and Foxconn BlackOps).

 

I can't give you a concrete recommendation. Just wanted to make clear it is not a problem specific to your P41T-D3P. So changing the board is probably not going to help with that.
