VS512MB400 Test 5 Memtest 86 errors = deffective RAM? Part 2

Recommended Posts

Hi,

See this link for my origional post and sys specs:

http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=146308#post146308

So I sent the stick back to Komplett. The sent me another. Same problem. I have just recieved a second replacement. Guess what? exactly the same problem!

Now both the previous sticks returned where supposedly tested by Komplett and found to be deffective (I have this on email). But three defective sticks in a row?!

On a whim I dropped the RAM FSB down from 200mhz to 166mhz. It now passes mmtest86 test 5 without a hitch.

Soooo RAMguy what does that mean. Is it poss that my stick is deffective in a way that causes it to throw errors at 200mhz but not 166mhz.

Or do I have a problem elsewhere that is causing mem errors. PSU perhaps?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards

Please make sure you have the latest BIOS installed in your MB and load optimized/optimal default settings, and try the following BIOS settings;

Advanced Chipset:

Memclock Mode: Manual (400)

Bank Interleaving: 4/Enabled

Burst Length: 4

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

Frequency Voltage Control:

Spread Spectrum: Enabled

CPU FSB Clock: 200

DDR Voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts

All other settings should be set to default settings!

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org (V1.30) and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Tried the above, except for burst length and bank interleaving which don't appear in any of my BIOS menu's. Also CAS latency only goes upto 2T not 2.5T (MSI K8N Neo Platinum). Problem persists, 100000s of errors on test 5 of memtest...

So back to my origional query, could my PSU be the problem. I have read posts on other forums about a lack of current on the 12V rail causing this sort of issue. Is this possible?

HI,

Thanks. I have already returned 2 sticks to the retailer (Komplett.co.uk) with exactly the same problem. The last time they said I had been unfortunate in getting two sticks that had got through Corsair's quality control. This will be the third I return.

It seems a little coincidental, don't you think?

It's either something in your system, or possibly the reseller is giving you the same memory back, because Corsair always replaces RMA'd memory with new memory. It's virtually impossible to get 2 let alone 3 bad sticks with their testing.

Hi,

I managed to borrow a friends 512MB 3200 module today. Tested it in my machine, and its fine no crashes, passes memtest.

The module was from another manufacturer, I haven't heard of...but it works.

Do you still think its my system? I cant see how if another module of the same performance spec built by a diff company works.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
