Fitzy
hey all, i have a soltek sl-75FRN2-L mobo a AMD 3200+ barton and 1gb of twinX PRO pc3200 c2, and i want to over clock my system but when i go oc it, it like accepts the fsb and then it dont etc, at the system is running at 200fsb and 2.65v, cas latenceys at 2.5-3-3-5 and runs fine, how would i go about ocing it like what settings do ppl reccomend for this i also have a thermaltake Volcano 12extreme on it. I read a test done on a 3200+ barton and they had twinX 3200 cant remember if it was ll or whatever but they got with stock cooler 222fsb cas's had to go from like 2-3-3-6 or something to like 2.5-4-4-6 somethin like that and stock voltage, so i went and tried that it accepted the fsb and left other stuff normal then i saved and exited then it went to boot then i go ill go a little higher to get to 2.5ghz so i go to 228 fsb and i raised nothing so then saved and exited and then it went to load up windows ( i have XP btw) and yea then it couldnt handle it then i started to much around with cas latenceys etc.. and like it wouldnt accept like the settings or something like i saved and then exited bios and then restarted but kept goin like no cpu present please re enter your settings in etc.. Pls try to help me lol !
CMC_SAVAGE
OC'ing your system falls into two catagories; RAM and CPU. Common CPU OC's are achieved by simply raising the Multiplier and RAM by uping the FSB. There's more to it and you should do your homework before you screw something up. You can start here. Fitzy
im not really a noob to ocing, and i am a comp tech, but this is puzziling me because i had oced my 2800 and 2100 the 2800 had 1gb of ram 2 twinX 256ll and 1 stick of 512ll and i oced that fine with a better cooler on it. Wired
Post is a bit confusing. First of all, did you go straight from 200 to 228? Have you tried incrementing a couple of Mhz, then seeing if Windows is stable? Has this CPU ever been OC'd before? Has the memory? Also, try 3-4-4-8. Fitzy
umm yea i have tried 210 that booted but then crashed, so i changed latencey but nope. ill try that latency you said. umm the ram and cpu havnet been oced before i bought them not long ago together, this mobo has had my 2800 in it etc and i oced that and did it fine but this one is bothering me lol ! thx aye ohh btw i dont know if this is a proplem with cpu etc, but i think it is hdd page filing, but like i play games and it really only happens with like farcry and css basicly big graphical games etc it like freezes the system and like sometimes goes like nrrrrrrrrr etc then after like 20 sec or so it comes back and i play for how ever long but yea i got windows xp sp2 on a segate 80gb 4mbcashe hdd i got the page file up to like 3gbmax and 1.2gb min or something like that but yea i also got a 120gb segate with 8mbcashe should i put windows on that hdd or is it something else ?? Wired
The 8 MB cache will help out for sure. 3 GB page file that quickly? very odd... BTW, what game is CSS? Only CSS I know of pertains to web design...
Fitzy
umm yea i really need to reinstall my comp anyways cause of the newer ram and cpu but css is CounterStrike Source lol, but yea i know you can get 8mbcashe but frikkin the place where i went to get it from they sold out of every other segate so i had to get the 80gb with 4mb cause i wanted another 120 or 160 with 8mb cashe but yea ill have to burn all my stuff onto dvd's lol or somethin cause its nearly full the 120gb ahaha ! but yea what about my system lol, i tried 210fsb and ram timings of 2.5-3-3-5 and worked no problems but didnt want to have it at that i would rather something higher so i went to 215 with 2.5-3-3-6 loaded into windows but then crashed, then went to 3-3-3-8 and did same thing, then 2.5-4-4-8 but didnt really do much but yea its really weird, i guess ill have to go with 200stock or 210 lol unless i get timings etc so i can go higher etc. Theres no problem with cooling it runns cool but i think i might have to put some artic silver 5 onto my northbridge just in case ahaha. Fitzy
UMM, would the artic silver 5 make a big difference in the cooling of the northbridge apart from the stuff thats on it now !! and would it let me go higher maby in ocing ?? cause i dont think it would aye ! it would just run cooler but i have known some cases where the northbridge overheated and wouldnt let some person go ocing too much ! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 17, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 17, 2004 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/Optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; TwinX1024 or TwinX512-3200C2 CPU Freq: 200 MHz (400 FSB) (do 5MHz Increment) System Performance: User Define Memory Frequency: 100% Resulting Frequency: 200 MHz (400FSB) (Automatically change soon as CPU clock frequency is changed) Memory Timing: User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T (7 when you OC'ed) DDR Reference Voltage: 2.7 Volts (2.8 volts when you OC'ed) AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings are motherboards defaults Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!
