bwlonsdale
I was putting together a system from some parts for a spare PC and I think this part is faulty. The motherboard I'm installing it on is a Abit KR7A-133R. I have run memtest 3.2 and it consistently fails at 395Mb in test#2. The timings I'm using are:- 6-3-3, CAS 2.5 I have used all other timings as well and the results are the same with it failing at the 395Mb point in test #2. I have put the stick into another PC I have with a motherboard Gigabyte-7N400Pro and it also fails at the exact same point using the same test. I have used the earlier version of memtest (2.9) and it consistently fails with lots of errors on test #5 in that version. I read on their site that test #5 and #8 were the hardest ones for Athlon systems to pass. I have put another brand of memory into the Abit KR7A-133R (a Kingmax SuperRAM module) and it works flawlessly and passes all memtest tests (either version). Does this sound like a faulty module? I am based in the UK. thanks, Brian.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 15, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 15, 2004 Please try the VS module with your Gigabyte GA-7N400 with the following BIOS settings, but before you make the necessary changes, make sure that you have the latest BIOS installed for your MB; Advanced Chipset Features (Ctrl + F1) Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disabled/User define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T SDRAM Bank Interleave: 4/Auto/Enabled SDRAM Command Rate: 2T Frequency Voltage Control CPU Freq/Clock: 133 or 166 or 200 MHz (depending on CPU FSB speed) DRAM Freq/Clock: 133 or 166 or 200 MHz (depending on CPU FSB speed) CPU/DRAM ratio: 1:1 Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts (+.2) AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI 9200 or 9600 then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure! bwlonsdale
The replacement module you sent is also now faulty (it did work when it first arrived). I've tested as per your previous instructions on the Abit KR7A and on a new motherboard I've bought to replace it - an Abit NF7 v2. The part fails at around 105Mb on both boards.
