Yellowbeard
Corsair has come up with a memory configurator. Here is what is says about your setup. http://compatible.corsairmemory.com/memorysearch.aspx?modelid=1026 Good luck, Mike.
vinman
thanks alot, which would be best for overclocking by raising the fsb? thanks again.
Yellowbeard
I'd definitely suggest the one that says best performance, the PC3200XL and get the 1024mb TwinX kit. Mike.
vinman
thanks again im gonna go for the 2 512's. how far can i push a tbred-b with that memory? im at 145 fsb @2180.
Yellowbeard
I have no idea but, hopefully someone with more hands-on AMD experience than I have can give some input. Good luck, Mike.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 12, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 12, 2004 I would suggest Twinx1024-2700LL for best performance.
vinman
2700 instead of the 3200? does it have to do with latency timings? which would let me increase the fsb higher? thanks again
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 15, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 15, 2004 No based on your CPU, you would not be able to run the memory faster that DDR333 and the part# I gave you would be what you need. You can use XMS3200, but you may need to run the memory at DDR333 because of the CPU you have.
vinman
i borrowed a friends kingston pc2700 regular memory and the fsb wouldnt go higher than 146 fsb. My question is would the corsair "oc type" memory allow me to increase the fsb further? please advise, i want the memory but if i cant raise fsb then i ll get a better board. Yellowbeard
In theory, the PC3200XL will run MUCH faster than the PC2700. In fact it WILL run 66.6mhz faster and it WILL OC much farther than the PC2700. However, you will most likely be limited either by your CPU or your MOBO which is why I think RAM GUY recommended the PC2700. So, if you want speed, you will need to have a MOBO+CPU that will run at a 200mhz FSB+ and combine that with the PC3200XL. HOWEVER!, not all MOBOs are guaranteed to OC and Corsair will not guarantee the PC3200XL to run at greater than 200mhz. But, it will and it does it well. So, IMO, you need to get a newer dual channel MOBO setup (P4 or socket 939 AMD) and combine it with the PC3200Xl for best results. The bad part of all of this is, you cannot simply upgrade 1 aspect of the 3 primary parts and expect great results. That is why I recommend a faster CPU, MOBO, and RAM. Mike. vinman
thanks im getting it along with some pc3200 memory , i hope the xp2400 at 133 doesnt hold me back though if so ill have to buck up for a faster cpu as well. i hear you about the new windows thing ,gates made his billions by reinventing his stuff every few years! thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 24, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 24, 2004 LOL! If we all could only be 1% and lucky as Mr. Gates, we would all be doing very well. For best performance I would set the memory Frequency at 100% and no faster the DDR333, but you can play with the settings and test the system with like Everest 1.5 and see which settings give the best performance. Yellowbeard
Sorry, I missed your specific question. (Crown Royal will do that :beatchair ) If you are running 200mhz and want low latencies, the PC3200XL is still my suggestion. Mike.
