Bad memory stick

Recommended Posts

I have two 512 3200 DDR 400 memory sticks in this computer. Worked fine for a year and a half then I began getting random system reboots. The blue screen flashes but too fast to read. Anyway, I assumed it a memory issue so I removed one of the sticks. The computer worked fine for 2 weeks at which time I swapped the good one out and put the other one back in, same slot. The computer worked for 30 min and did the reboot. I then took out that stick, put the other back in and it's fine. Bottom line, I have one identified bad 512 stick. I need the Post Id number to request an RMA.

Thanks

Can you tell me the exact model# of your memory module and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me if you have the latest BIOS installed on your system and the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

You will need to run the memory at the same frequency as your CPU with any AMD 166 Mhz CPU or faster. Other wise it will cause a bottelneck in the chipset and may indeed create errors. Sorry but that is a chipset limitation.

Please try these settings and test the modules with http://www.memtest.org to be sure.
