TalentS.G
I'm trying to use 4DIMS XMS 3700 (2gb) on a GA-8ik1100... I have all the right settings in the bios and the latest updates, but for some reason no matter what the computer will freeze after a certain time period after windows has loaded. 1gb is fine, I've left the comp running with this for over 4 days without any problems, but 2gb can barely run for 40 minutes without a complete system freeze. Any solutions to this? I hope I didnt waste cash for the extra 1gb and I cant even use it =[
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2004 Can you tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
TalentS.G
everything is on auto, 2.8c p4. i have the ram timing at 3844 as its supposed to be... and ive set the ram to voltage 2 since it only gives you the option for 1 2 or 3 even with cntrl + f1. i havnt touched anything else. also... GA's website had a bios update somewhere in there concerning this matter... using over 2 dimms, or 1gb i forget, but it doesnt fix it. i do have the newest bios update on their site. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 10, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 10, 2004 Can you tell me the make and model of power supply you have? And with 4 modules you would need to consider about 48 watts just for the memory.
TalentS.G
im using a vantec stealth 520w, im sure thats plenty =/
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 10, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 10, 2004 I would agree, that should be big enough. But do you have another PSU you can use just to test with? It could be that it's failing or maybe putting out too much noise! Bottom line though, if the modules will run with out problems 1 or 2 up but you have problems with all 4, then either there is a problem with the MB or some other problem, most likely power related. Can you test the modules in another system?
TalentS.G
yes they all work fine in my other system. if i use a 5200 geforce instead of my radeon 9800 the 2gb sometimes works fine, too... or atleast windows go's much longer without freezing... so it looks like it very well may be a power problem. ill be back after trying a new psu
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 10, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 10, 2004 Honestly, I hope it is the PSU because you can change that. But if it's not the PSU that would suggest the MB is the problem, and that might be a little harder to deal with.
