Orthologue
I have 2 sticks of Corsair Value Select 256MB333 in a duel channel MSI K7N2 MB. I'm fairly positive I have a bad module. I am not overclocking. I have been experiencing random errors and reboots. I’ve been troubleshooting for a while now. With both sticks in I get errors within a minute of running Prime95 torture test and get multiple errors with memtest. When I switch out the modules, one performs perfectly and the other creates the same errors. Please let me know what I need to do to get a RMA number. Since I am running duel channel, should I send in both modules to ensure compatibility? These modules were purchased separately.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2004 Can you tell me the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
Orthologue
I'm not sure if this is all the settings you need, but here you go... CPU is an AMD XP2500 (barton core) running at 1833 FSB 333 (the MB can handle 400) I used the Automatic detection in the BIOS: CPU speed 1833 FSB 166 (333) CPU interface [normal] current DRAM clock 166 memory timing [by SPD] 7,3,3,2.5 FSB spread spectrum [0.50%]
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 10, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 10, 2004 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/Optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; VS256MB333 Advanced Chipset/DRAM Configuration Memory Timing: User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T Frequency Voltage Control CPU Freq: 166 MHz (333 FSB) System Performance: User Define Memory Frequency: 100%/1:1 Resulting Frequency: 166 MHz (333 FSB) DDR Reference Voltage: 2.7 Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings are motherboards defaults Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!
Orthologue
Ok, I implemented the changes you suggested and tested each stick individually. The stick I believe is bad still fails memtest. However, the other stick now shows errors as well. A few per pass. Would it be possible to send them both back? Thanks.
