P5AD2 Memory Compatibility Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi

We bought Corsair memory TWIN2X1024-4300C3 for our P5AD2 Premium motherboard. The reason we did so is the motherboard's manual lists that particular Corsair memory as being compatible. (Well, actually it lists the CM2X512-4300C3, but what we purchased is the same thing, just 2 in a matched set, right?)

Anyhow, our dilemma is we just looked at Corsair's memory compatibility list, and that memory is not on there for our board. We haven't fired up the new computer yet since we have not acquired all the pieces for the new build, so we figured we had better ask here before we get any further.

Is Asus or Corsair wrong? Help! Thanks!!!

Thank you for your reply. Well, we acquired all the pieces for the system, fired it up, and can't get it to post at all. We get no video output, and the Post Reporter telling us "System failed due to CPU overclocking." The system consists of:

P5AD2 Premium

Intel Prescott 3.4 550 LGA 775

WD Raptor 74 gig

Corsair TWIN2X1024-4300C3

Antec 550 True Power 24-pin PS

Gigabyte Radeon x800xt Video Card

At first we thought it was a bios issue, since our board only had bios 1.02 and these boards require at least bios 1.06 or higher. So after Asus sent us a flashed bios chip (twice - they sent the wrong one the first time), we popped it in last night and STILL get this message.

After spending 2 hours on the phone with Asus technical support last night, they are telling us we have incompatible memory. The number on each memory module is CM2X512-4300C3, and that is the EXACT number listed in our motherboard manual as being compatible. But now Asus is saying they get their compatibility recommendations from Corsair, and since that part is not on Corsair's list they're trying to blame us. (It's in black and white in the manual!)

So now we've got a TRULY expensive desk decoration and we don't know what to do. I think it's been over 30 days on everything, because it took a few weeks to acquire all the parts. We don't even WANT this Asus mobo anymore because it's been such a hassle, but ZipZoomFly basically told us to take a flying leap. I think we're pretty close to 30 days on the memory too, I'll have to check.

My question is: Is it possible that incompatible memory would cause the specific problem we're having? No post, no video, post reporter saying overclocked cpu? If so, what do I do now? How can I return it when it has been opened? And how is it our fault if we followed Asus' specific compatiblilty list in our motherboard manual?

It's possible but we use this MB to test these modules, so I doubt that its not compatible. Can you try and reset the bios with the CLRTC jumper and please make sure the power is off and or diss-connected and the battery is removed and then clear the bios for about 30 seconds and see if the system will post.

We've done that quite a few times now. Every tech support call to Asus they have us do that at least once, lol, and last night they had my husband benchtest the system and still nothing. Asus now is telling us this is incompatible memory, period.

I'm curious, though. If Corsair tests these modules on this board, why aren't they listed on the mobo compatibility list? Thanks for all your help!

We do not always submit an over clocked module to MB makers as they will not always test something that is out of spec. We can try and replace the modules if you like, but I would ask to talk to the manager at ASUS TSD and see what they have to say. However, I have no problem replacing your modules if you want to try that, but I would suggest testing other memory if you can and see if the system will post.

Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

Thanks - I really appreciate that! Just one more question: Can we get the modules replaced with different modules? (Such as the 4200 or the 5400, which are on the compatibility list?) Or do we just have to switch for the same exact thing?

Well, we got a replacement mobo from Asus which still gave us some errors with the Corsair TWIN2X1024-4300C3 memory. So we changed the timing to 4-4-4-12 (that is what Falcon Northwest uses in the Mach 5 so we figured we'd give it a shot), and the voltage set to "Auto," and now it boots FINALLY. Do you have any idea why the mobo would not boot with default timings, or with the timings you suggested of 3-3-3-8? Not that we're complaining - we're so glad it finally works - but we're just curious at this point. Thanks!

Had the same probleme with my ASUS P5GD2 (915P).

Turning up the voltage manualy to 1,9Volts did the trick.

(Have you tried that)

Avanced/Jumperless:

AI Overcloking: Manual

CPU Freq: 200 Mhz

Memory Freq: 533 MHz

Memory Voltage: 1,9V

Just use Defaults for all other settings. (If your computer locks up in rebooting al over, first try powering down and turn on again first)
