sbuffett
OK, I have a 512 stick of XMS 2700 in my ASUS P4PE gold, I paid more for the XMS for the obvious reasons, agressive memory settings with no failure, no overclocking just the optimal settings. My problem is that with the XMS installed anything more than the standard setting causes my system not to boot and the ASUS post reporter to tell me that I overclocked my cpu too much and boot failed. When I swap in cheap generic DIMMS I can set my system to optimal and turbo with no problems. I purchased the XMS module so that I could have better performance than generic RAM, no worse. Is this a case that warrants an RMA or am I stuck with my slow RAM? Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 8, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 8, 2004 Can you tell me the exact model# of your memory module and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me if you have the latest BIOS installed on your system and the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set? sbuffett
This has been a persistant problem, thought it might be something else, just swaped the DIMM today because I had two lying around from another machine.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 8, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 8, 2004 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; CMX512-2700C2 Advanced Chipset Features CPU Freq: 133 DRAM Clock: 333 MHz Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.75 Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disabled/User define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T SDRAM Burst Length: 4 USB Legacy Support: Disabled All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure! sbuffett
I applied all the setting mentioned above with the exception of the DIM voltage, only settings were 2.7 & 2.9 so I set at 2.7. I still couldn't run turbo mode. Also when I ran memtest I got 3 failures, all at 319.4MB. I can run it again and write down the other details if necessary but to me this seems to be a bad DIMM. sbuffett
You guys don't do cross shipping like Western Digital and some other companies do you? I know I have to return the part but I only have the 1 stick in my PC and having no computer for like two weeks wouldn't be nice at all. Thanks
