DDR DIMM Timing Mismatch???

Recommended Posts

Ok, I had a stick of Corsair XMS 3200 512MB Ram and decided to upgrade to 1 gig, so I got another stick of the same thing.

After installing the new RAM my computer would not boot, saying a fatal error had occured due to a timing mismatch.

My original stick was XMS3202v1.2 and the new one is XMS3202v3.1. Will these two not work together at all or can I configure some way to make them work?

What is the exact part # of each module? Yes, the version difference may cause some problems. For the time being, try these timings:

CAS Latency: 3T

RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 4T

Row Precharge (tRP): 4T

Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T

Ok, those timings did not work either. The system does not boot at all, I get a stat screen saying DDR DIMM Timing Mismatch, Fatal Error

I'm not sure where the product code is on these things so I'm just going to give all the numbers I can find.

New Stick:

CMX512-3200C2PT

XMS3202v3.1

0440024-2

XMS3200 512MB 400MHz CL2

Old Stick:

CMX512-3200C2

XMS3202v1.2

0403024

XMS3200 512MB 400MHz CL2

Please find a way to make these work. I can't afford a new stick.

I am sorry, but with most MB's today the memory may need to be identically matched, and one of the reasons we cam out with Twinx sets of modules.

I would try and find another use for the older module that you have and then just get a Twinx1024-3200C2 for best performance.

If that is not an option for you, you can try and RMA both modules, but I would suggest you send an a email with a copy of the form or all of your info name address and phone# and the Module part# and copy the link to this post and email it to Rma@corsairmemory.com; but explain that you need 2 modules that are the same revision.

I definately can't afford new RAM and I have no other use for the old stick, so I'm gonna have to go with the RMA option. What exactly does that entail. Do I just print out the a form for each module or just for my old one? Do I just fill them out with the information posted here, scan them back in and then e-mail it as an attachment to corsair along with a link to this post? What happens then?

Thanks for you help, I really need to get this fixed.

Just send an email as stated and explain that the modules need to be the same revision for your configuration, and you would submit the RMA for what you have now 1-CMX512-3200C2PT and 1-CMX512-3200C2, so you will need 2 RMA#'s but explain this by email to customer service. Or just call them at 510-657-8747 and dial "0" that will take you to customer service!
