CTCNetwork
Hi, I have 2 x Corsair 512Mb PC3200 NP CL2.5 Modules in my AOpen AK79D-400VN MoBo. Since installin both Win XP and Win2K I am constantly getting PFN_LIST_CORRUPT messages as the system randomly hangs and BSoD . . . I have loaded all manufactureers supplied drivers as supplied, in addition to using the latest downloaded drivers. No change The MS site suggest a likely cause is a faulty Memory Module. . . Any other suggestions or ideas?? :)
Wired
What is the exact part # from the sticker on the memory itself? Don't recognize the NP thing at all.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 5, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 5, 2004 And what is the CPU speed and it's FSB and what do you have the bios set to for CPU and memory?
CTCNetwork
Hi, Thanks for getting back, I'll have a look-see later and post back the info.
CTCNetwork
Hi, Right info as follows :- CPU. 179 x 11.5 = 2.05Ghz AGP 179 x 2.71 = 66.67Mhz DRAM = 179 x 2.00 = DDR358 DDR Voltage = Auto Memory Timing = BySPD CAS Latency (CL) = 2.5 Active to Precharge = 7 DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay = 3 DRAM Precharge = 3 Memory has The following on the abel Corsair Value VS512MB400 Lot 04080220 And on the chips = VS32MB-5 280408 Hope this helps . .
Wired
Why in the world is it set to 179??? What is the CPU model?
CTCNetwork
Uhhh . . . Because I cant change the multiplyer??? 11.5 is fixed in the processor and the board doesn't change it, well it shows that it has changed - but the change does not really happen as the processor is multiplyer locked. ;):
Wired
Which CPU model do you have?
CTCNetwork
Hi, The processor is an AMD XP2600+. This usually runs at 1.96Ghz but I have upped the speed a little. 2.07 (not 2.05!). However, I also manually reduced the memory speed/multiplyer to make sure things didn't get too hot, and not to put the memory under excessive strain. :sigh!:
Wired
Ok, so in otherwords you are OVERCLOCKING the CPU, which is 166 Mhz FSB normally. When the memory and FSB is run at 166 Mhz, does it run ok? Have you ever overclocked this CPU before? If not, you may just be hitting the limits of the CPU.
CTCNetwork
Hi, Yes, Overclocking indeed. But well within OC limits for the processor. Infact, it is only 0.1 Ghz overclocked so more than withing any limits (other have this processor running up to 2.2Ghz or so - SUCCESFULLY. However, I have also tried with settinga at Auto - unclocked witht he memory at DDR400 - same thing. Thanks. . .
Wired
Firstly some CPUs just cannot OC at all, luck of the silicon bin. Also, AMD XP CPUs do not like to run in async with the memory. If this is the first time OCing this CPU, then it may just not be OCable. To test the memory it is recommended that it is run in a system with a 400 Mhz FSB CPU. CTCNetwork
Hi, Well corrently the system has its standard setup - nothing fancy changed. FSB = 166 Processor running ay 1.92Ghz DDR400 All voltages standard or auto where possible. So will see how long it lasts. An hour, a day, whatever. . . I expect another PFN_LIST_CORRUPT listing though. . . as there are not many things that cause that fault. . . :sigh!:
Wired
Is the memory running though at 166 Mhz or 200 Mhz?
CTCNetwork
Hi, I would assume it will be 166. as the multiplyer is greater than 2 when set in auto. I will check this when the machine decides enough is enough and BSOD's on me. . .
Wired
I have no idea what you mean there about the 2 and auto. There is a seperate selection for the FSB and for the memory settings.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 8, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 8, 2004 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/Optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; VS512MB400 CPU Freq: 166 MHz (333 FSB) System Performance: User Define Memory Frequency: 100% Resulting Frequency: 166 MHz (333 FSB) Memory Timing: User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T DDR Reference Voltage: 2.7 Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings are motherboards defaults Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!
CTCNetwork
Hi, Well, all settings on the board are standard or in auto to get the right settings. The memory shows as 166 in BIOS. . . . . . But in that Memory tester shows as 200. The test. Left it overnigh and it had completed 5 tests and was on its 6th. 16 errors found. So take it from that, at least one module is faulty.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2004 Please set the settings that I have indicated on my previous post.
Wired
Also, please post ALL of the memory settings that are in your BIOS. Sounds like your FSB is at one spd and your memory is at another.
CTCNetwork
Hi, Thanks both, CPU Freq: 166 MHz (333 FSB) - 166 System Performance: User Define Memory Frequency: 100% - not an option Resulting Frequency: 166 MHz (333 FSB) - shows in BIOS as 166 in memtest as 200? Memory Timing: User Define - auto gives the below settings, but used manual SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T - yes SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T - yes SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T - yes SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T - yes DDR Reference Voltage: 2.7 Volts - my volt only goes to 2.65 My MOBO is an AOPEN AK79D-400VN if this helps. Just flashed the BIOS to latest Ver 1.14. Did the memtest for 1 cycle and got 2 errors in :- 000026a98328 (618.5Mb) 00027a98308 (634.5Mb) Des. . .
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2004 You should have a setting for the memory frequency normally with this chipset it's a % but it can also be a divider setting like 1-1 or 3-3.
CTCNetwork
Hi, No, just been through the BIOS - twice, and nothing like that. This MoBo has an nVidia/nForce Chipset BTW. . . But with the previous memory test I can safely assume that thereis a fault. I just have to test each module to determine which one...

CTCNetwork
Hi, Well, now I am pissed. . . I tested each module, individually, in the first memory slot. Both showed no error. ( Huh???) So, tested both in the third slot and the one that showed as faulty again showed errors. but the other had no errors. (Hmmm?!?!?) So now, with the 2 modules back in, but slot-swapped, the tests show the same error as originally. (Ehhh???!???) My view? The supplier can have both the memory and MoBo back - and keep them.
