Horo
Hello my name is Horo. I would be most glad if you could help me today, here is my issue. Well unfortunately for the past two weeks I've had several surges. My computer shuts down then shows this message "Power supply surges detected during the previous power on. Asus anti-surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply unit Press F1 to run SETUP." Idle and Load I have crashes. This system isn't old by any means, three months since I've built it. Computer SPECS: Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero CPU: i7 4790k (OC: 4.4Ghz) CPUC: H105 (Push) GPU: GTX 780 ASUS PSU: Ax860i UK HDD: 2TB WD (Black) SSD: Kingston 240GB UK 120GB RAM: HyperX Kingston 16GB Screenshots: Kernel-Power > http://puu.sh/bPkUJ/dfdc5bb3a3.png XML View Kernel-Power > http://puu.sh/bPkYO/7e2890b24b.png Kernel-PnP > http://puu.sh/bPlhW/c520757d4d.png XML View Kernel-Power > http://puu.sh/bPlld/0467d50320.png HWMonitor > http://puu.sh/bPl3P/f5f9f5911f.png CPU-Z > http://puu.sh/bPl8B/13e22aa378.png If anyone has any answers on how to fix this problem please reply, I will be most thankful if the issue resolves. (This EDIT log is for people that may have the same issue as me, since if they've a problem like I'm having this could be useful to them) EDIT: I've lowered my overclock to 4.4GHz (Turbo Boost) from 4.8GHz (Custom) and its still having unexpected power-offs. EDIT 2: I would also like to note I have the money to buy a new power supply unit, its just I'd prefer to see if I can do anything to fix the problem, before going out and buying another. EDIT 3: I've disabled Asus Anti-Surge in the Bios and checked all the boxes for OCP and turned them up to 40AMPS, so far no crashes. I've overclocked to 4.7GHz (Custom) EDIT 4: 24 Hours since I've Disabled Asus Anti-Surge and checked all the boxes for OCP and turned them to 40AMPS, not a single unexpected shut-down. EDIT 5: Non-related to the PSU issue, the latency/timings on the ram randomly went from correct to incorrect, I changed it back to the correct latency/timings and the issue seems resolved, a second 24 hour and no crash. Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted September 28, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 28, 2014 Step 1: Disable Asus Anti-Surge. The software is ****. Step 2: In Link, check all of the boxes for OCP and turn them up to 40A.
Horo
Thank you for the reply Jonnyguru, I've made the changes in Corsair Link and in the bios. I'll note back to you if it resolves the problem. Do you think it would be alright if I overclock to 4.8GHz again? Also if you don't mind me asking why does it help putting them all at 40AMPS? http://puu.sh/bRiu5/92a03f6fa0.jpg Thanks again Jonnyguru or "PSU GUY" Regards, Horo. Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted September 28, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 28, 2014 Because at default, they're all actually set to 30A +/- 10%, but the Link software doesn't reflect it (because Link doesn't poll the PSU's firmware for it on startup). If this works, go back into Link, uncheck all of the boxes and try your OC again. Keep in mind that if you unplug AC power from the PSU, you have to change your settings again because the settings in the PSU aren't stored on an EEPROM or anything. :(:
Horo
I think I'm just going to keep all the boxes checked, since its fixing the problem currently, there isn't any problem with them checked and at 40AMPS 24/7 is there? Sorry for so many questions its just since you're technically an expert I thought I might take the time to see if I can get these questions answered. Regards, Horo. Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted September 28, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 28, 2014 Nothing wrong with keeping them checked all the time. You might even be fine with the OC that way. I'm just used to using R295X2 and over clocked Haswell-E which suck an incredible amount of power. Horo
24 Hours and not a single crash, this may have fixed my issue. I'm going to give it a week though and see if it occurs and if not then this is the solution. Thanks again Jonnyguru Regards, Horo.
Horo
Hey again Now I have another issue Jonnyguru, Today I've had a single crash while loading a game up. I don't know what to do about it. Is it the same problem? I also have a minidump error folder but have no clue on how to read it
Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted October 6, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 6, 2014 Just loading a game up shouldn't cause any stress at all to GPU, CPU, PSU, etc. RAM, perhaps, since it's buffering files before being written to the drive. Horo
Jonnyguru, well what do you recommend me doing? if you've any suggestions that would be great. Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted October 7, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 7, 2014 The quick and dirty answer would be to try other RAM?
Horo
I have possibly fixed the issue, I did a quick Ram test to see if it was the cause of this problem and it came back fine. I went into the bios checking the ram making sure the latency was correct and for some reason it was incorrect I reset them and re-overclocked and now I have zero unexpected crashes. I also have no understanding of why the latency changed on its own. To come to conclusion I think everything has been resolved 'again'. Well thanks for helping me out. You've been awesome, Jonnyguru.
