H60 Thermal Paste

I'm getting a new motherboard soon because my current one Asus Maximus Ranger has a memory slot problem . It doesn't boot up in the when I have ram in the first two slots at all and shuts down and when I do mem ok i get error 55 all the time.

So i bought a Gigabyte Z97X1 UD3H BLK edition. My question is that for the cpu( 4670k ) would it be best if i used my thermal remover to remove the h60 thermal paste then clean it afterwards with a thermal purifier and then apply arctic silver 5 . Then place the H60 back on or leave it be ?

If you remove the CPU from the motherboard then remove the H60 as well. Defintely clean it with Arctic 1&2 (which is what you described), and then apply your thermal compound of choice. AS5 may not be the best choice as it has a 200 hour cure time though. Many users around these forums use Arctic Cooling MX4 or Shin Etsu 7785, or something similar to that (the two mentioned have a 15 minute cure time).

AS5 will do the job, it just comes with some drawbacks, the largest being the 200 hour cure time.

After application, expect a bit higher temps that were previously observed with the H60 until the cure time is achieved. Also, be sure to power off the system several times over the course of the 200 hours (don't just continually run the system for 200 hours). AS5 will only cure properly after doing this.

MX4 is defintely a superior product, and if you want to use it, another option may be to install the unit now with some AS5, then at a later date, when the MX4 arrives or whenever it is acquired, just remove/clean/reinstall the H60 with the MX4.
