CrazyLarvae
This should be an easy question for most hardware enthusiasts: I bought a new Corsair RM1000 for my nephew's computer so he could use my old AMD Radeon 7970. The video card requires a 6 pin and 8 pin connector for power. The RM1000 comes with a cable configuration that I have never seen before: two X 6 + 2 connectors on the same cable. Previously I've always had to use separate cables for each of the 6 pin and 8 pin power jacks on the video card. So with the RM1000 can I simply connect one of these cables to the video card, utilizing one connector for the 6 pin jack and the other connector for the 8 pin jack? The reason I'm asking is that I want to be safe, to be sure I'm not overloading a single cable. Being able to use one cable instead of two cables to power the 7970 would be ideal, reducing the wires in the case and streamlining airflow. Protocol48
One GPU on one cable with an RM1000 should not be a problem. If you had two GPUs, would you run 4 PSU cables; I think not; you would run one cable for each GPU.
