Darth-Lloydius
HI, I have the msi nforce platium MB and TWINX1024-2700LL and am having probs wiv getting the ram to work at its rated speed, of 2-2-2-5@333, i have tryed uping the voltage to 2.75v and still probs, i have tested meory wiv mentest3.31 the cd bootable one, i have also tryed the mem @ 2-3-2-5@333 (ras to cas 3), and still errors, this is wiv all settings to standard or opitmal as in bios, memtest reports lots of errors mainly test 3 and 4 and then i restart comp b4 test 5, and try new settings and i have also tested each stick 1 at a time and 1 stick is weaker, 1 takes 2.7 to make stable and other still reports errors, have also put in diff mobo, and same again, 1 reports more errors, i though this memory was suppose to be overclockable but icant even get it to run at its factory speed of 2-2-2-5@333, it sais this memory was ddr400 set lower to get tigher lantices, was also wondering what its timings would be at ddr400, o and have tested other memory in board and no probs (ONZ DDR400 @ 2.5.3.3.7)@256mb amd2200+ @166x11 = 1833 @32 idle 40 after gaming rad 9800pro 128 msi nforce2 platium bios 11.40 40gig seagate ata100 5 x case fans so its cool temp @ 25-27.oC twinx1024-2700LL i think thats everything.... Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 1, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 1, 2004 I would try these settings and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. CPU Freq: 133 MHz Memory Frequency: 125% Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts Resulting Frequency: 166MHz SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T
Darth-Lloydius
Right i have tryed what you suggested, but still i recieve errors, mainly on 1 stick, i have tryed this memory in 2 other mobos now and still gets errors, even relaxing the timings, only reduces the amount of errors, i think it must have been a dodgy batch or something as i would presume the testing b4 shiping would have picked these errors up. hopefully something can be done about this... as am lost without a stable comp, ... 2.7v 2 3-ras to cas 2 5t 1 stick stable 1 with loads of errors - so must be faulty memory :( how come ras to cas had to be set to 3 to get 1 stable, does this mean both are faulty, or is this as fast as it will go, i paid for 2-2-2-5 @333 memory, so hope it will do as it sais. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 2, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 2, 2004 Lets get your modules replaced, but the new modules will likely be Cass 2-3-2-5 at DDR333. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
Darth-Lloydius
i will do. thanks for your help ramguy, as has been greatly recieved, is there any reason why the replacement ram will be slower, but who cares i just want ram that works... many thanks DarthLloydius
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 2, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 2, 2004 The older spec for XMS2700LL when it was first developed was Cass 2-2-2-5 but later as new chipsets were released ( January of 2003) some would not run with the Rass to Cass set to "2" and the spec was relaxed to Cass 2-3-2-5 last year. Darth-Lloydius
fair enough, also do u know what lantasies the mem will run @ ddr400 speed, and would the new XL memory run @2-2-2-
Wired
Yes, the XLs are made to do 2-2-2-5 @ 400 Mhz, although some boards won't do it by default, you may have to manually set the timings @ 2-2-2-5.
Darth-Lloydius
thanks for the reply, but do u know what speed my 2700LL twinx will do @400ddr, cheers for all your help, many thanks...
Wired
They're not designed to do 400 Mhz AT ALL. You have a shot of overclocking them to that speeds, but there's a good chance they won't be able to do it.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 4, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 4, 2004 If you are planning on over clocking, I would suggest Twinx1024-3200XL you will have more room to play with and get much further.
Darth-Lloydius
send me some of that for free then .. lol ... im sure i read some where that the mem was ddr400 slowed down and set to aggresive timings, or i might be dreaming, like the ddr400 xl that do 5-2-2-2 but do 2.5-3-3-7 @500ddr btw ive got some of this in the wifes comp with the xp2500 chip, anyway thats all from me, as just got to wait for me replacement ram to turn up, as its rather annoying having only 256mb (onz ddr400 @2.5-3-3-7) (xp2200 @200fsb 1.9ghz stable, will go higher soon :) thanks once again. darthlloydius
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 5, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 5, 2004 Well you are welcome to try what ever you like. Darth-Lloydius
ok np, was only exploring other options, as will be leaving them @2-3-2-5 as would be better for gaming, ie doom3, which does not like having only 256mb :( :( if only i could fast forward time,,, cheers, and once again thanks foe all your help and for answering my questions, darthlloydius join the fast side
