So i just installed a corsair ax 860i into my system. On start up and shut down you can hear a ping/click from the psu. I am just wondering is this normal, everything works just fine. The sound is louder at shut down.

Most, modern day, highly efficient PSUs do this. That includes the CS-M, RM, HXi, AX and AXi.

There is a relay that switches the +5VSB load over to the main +5V rail.

It's not unusual and there's nothing wrong with your PSU.
